Item Description

Ebay instruct sellers listing live concerts, radio TV sessions albums to include they have been officially licensed released.
This album s title might not trigger ebay s search engine because Tripping The Light Fantastic does sound more like a late 60 s psychedelic title I never like filling out forms and to avoid the red warning that flares up to demand an attachment, I will state....I do not sell counterfeit or bootleg records and Tripping The Light Fantastic was indeed recorded and released around the world in 1990 officially by EMI and Capitol.
Once there was a way to get back homeward, Once there was a way to get back home, Sleep pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullabye.
Golden slumbers fill your eyes, Smiles awake you when you rise, Sleep pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullabye.
Once there was a way to get back homeward, Once there was a way to get back home, Sleep pretty darling, do not cry, And I will sing a lullabye.
PAUL McCARTNEY: Tripping The Light Fantastic RARE UK FIRST AND ONLY PRESSING, 5th NOVEMBER,1990.
THREE ALBUM SET WITH AN ASTONISHING THIRTY SEVEN TRACKS SPREAD OVER SIX SIDES OF EMI S TOP QUALITY VINYL.
INCLUDED IS A DELUXE, HUGE SIZE 12 x 12, 27 PAGES COLOUR BOOK, PRINTED ON GLOSSY PAPER, PRESENTED IN A SINGLE COVER WITH A SQUARE SHAPE.
Rare is liberally used on ebay but an unplayed true Mint set of three records, three Mint glossy colour unsplit colour inner sleeves, an unhandled Mint incredible large book insert...and most of all, a stunning unused and unworn, Near perfect box shape sleeve....
is extremely rare as UK first pressing.
So rare my last listing was nearly six years ago and it has taken that long to find, I will explain in detail why virtually every outside cover is so heavily creased, worn and squashed out of shape below.
ALL THE TRACKS WERE RECORDED LIVE IN CONCERT ON PAUL S 1989 - 1990 WORLD TOUR.
PARLOPHONE LABEL: PCST 73463.
AS VERY FIRST UK PRESSINGS ALL THREE RECORDS CONTAIN THE ORIGINAL USA MASTERING INDEXING, MADE AT MASTERDISK , IN NEW YORK.
As usual when I have a double, triple or larger set of records, I do not attempt multiple pictures for several reasons, the first is I have other printed items and twelve pictures is time consuming enough, but only 12 pictures are available.
When I am offering unplayed Mint records, which is regularly, I minimise handling by choosing one record for label and maitrix etc.
details and the selected record has the greatest care lavished for displaying in pictures.
The most obvious choice of this trio of rare unplayed records is Record 2, because that contains a typical Mastering error made before the labels were printed and fixed.
Side s 3 4 were mistakenly hand scribed incorrectly, easily done without labels stating the Sides, they were crossed out and re-written correctly.
I will give EMI s UK machine stamped maitrix for all six sides and then the USA Mastering indexing, all four sets had to be compiled together due to the sheer volume of items involved, even though Side 4 was machine stamped directly above the Master Disk indexing, I showed them individually for clarity and because the USA mastering was shallow enough to need a shadow to see them clearer in black and white.
MAITRIX: MACHINE STAMPED BY EMI IN THE USUAL 6 0 CLOCK POSITION OF THE RUN-OUT GROOVES.
RECORD 1: PCST 73461 - A - 1U - 1 / PCST 73461 - B - 1U - 1 RECORD 2: PCST 73462 - A - 1U - 1 / PCST 73462 - B - 1U - 1 RECORD 3: PCST 73463 - A - 1U - 1 / PCST 73463 - B - 1U - 1 In 1990 only a very small proportion were pressed on vinyl, CD s were the dominant format, cassettes were becoming an alternative because so many cars still had tape machines.
There was only the one UK pressing made, as the above shows, all six sides were the first of the first pressings and I have never seen any of the multiple 1 digits increased, now, that is rare MAITRIX HAND SCRIBED DURING THE Master Disk MASTERING MADE IN NEW YORK: RECORD 1: PCST 73461 - SIDE ONE / PCST 73461- SIDE TWO MASTER DISK DMM RECORD 2: PCST 73462 - SIDE THREE / PCST 73462 - SIDE FOUR MASTER DISK DMM The incorrect Side was crossed out and corrected, this is the record shown in a compiled picture above, please click on the main or gallery initial picture to enlarge to full screen, for mobile phones that will be essential RECORD 3: PCST 73463 - SIDE FIVE / PCST 73463 - SIDE SIX MASTER DISK DMM WITH A SUPERB DELUXE QUALITY 12 x 12, 27 PAGES COLOUR BOOK, THE OUTSIDE HAS A GLOSSY CARD COVER, DESIGNED TO LOOK LIKE AND BE A TOUR PROGRAMME FOR THIS LIVE SET, COMPILED FROM VENUES AROUND THE WORLD.
ALL THE PAGES ALSO HAVE TOP QUALITY GLOSSY PAPER.
THE BOOK IS IN AS NEW, MINT CONDITION.
THE UK SINGLE BOX SHAPE, SIDE OPENING COVER IS IN AS PERFECT CONDITION AS I KNOW TO BE POSSIBLE.
EVEN SO, I AM NOT IGNORING THE DESIGN THAT WAS INAPPROPRIATE TO WITH STAND THE AVERAGE USE, THREE HEAVYWEIGHT RECORDS AND A HUGE HEAVY BOOK, REQUIRED A TRIPLE GATEFOLD COVER, THAT WOULD HAPPEN WITH EMI IN FIVE YEARS TIME WHEN WHEN THE BEATLES Anthology Series WAS RELEASED.
UNUSED, THIS ONLY HAS A HINT OF STANDING AND I FEEL I SHOULD FINE TUNE THE GRADING TO DO SUCH INCREDIBLE CONDITION AS THIS JUSTICE.
IN OTHER WORDS, I DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OTHER COVER COULD BETTER THIS ONE, NO MORE THAN THE INITIAL FACTORY PACKAGING, DISTRIBUTION AND ORIGINAL 1990 RECORD SHOP HANDLING , SO REALISTICALLY THE SECOND HALF OF THE GRADING I A TRUER REFLECTION.
THE COVER IS IN NEAR MINT/ MINT- CONDITION.
Holding three massively heavyweight records and a huge 12 x 12 book had to have an impact on the relatively thin cover, I am never keen on a single cover holding two records.
The traditional gatefold format spread the load perfectly, but three records in the past generated a thick cardboard lined box and lid for this format.
Love them or not, that was how the vinyl came and they all covers had tiny stress edge lines developing in 1990 25 years later, this has survived incredibly well because the records were never played, even so, storage generally still left pronounced inevitable signs of holding that excessive weight and shape.
Tere are a few exceptions to every rule and although I would never claim perfect this gets as close as the design permits and once in my possession, I immediately removed the records for storage in new inner sleeves and card covers.
I am experienced with vinyl from alll decades and my solution to maintaining the square box shape is is to insert a square of cardboard with the three original colour card inner sleeves and the book.
Any sagging in the centre and near the opening is instantly strengthened and as I havenow stored the records and supported the outside cover, is how I thoroughly recommend storing this set now, and for any other vinyl versions of Tripping The Light Fantastic.
The fantastic condition has now been frozen in time and wil remain as the ultimate condition, those with a vinyl copy will recognise the symptoms I just outlined and my remedy will preserve any cover, by selling this with unplayed records.
There can be no doubt that any fractional signs of holding such weight for twenty five years, nothing here is connected to usage or wear, just the passage of time.
An absolutely outer cover that is still 100 in the original square shape, please see my spine picture for the astounding condition, most spines are too creased and the top glossy surface too cracked to read the titles.
As you will have gathered, I am not all happy about a Near Mint / Mint- grading and feel my grading is completely unfair given the design, I long ago accepted the ridiculous responsibility placed onto record onto sellers when storage in reality, was perfectly made....with all six sides of the records unplayed I was dealing with this triple vinyl set from brand new in 1990 when trading at record fairs and I will tell the plain truth as I saw it then and today, this design only really worked with the scaled down CD jewel cases inside, the CD s edges were not an issue, nor was there any weight bearing down and therefore affecting all the edges by stress alone.
Most importantly, there are no splits in the glossy inner sleeves, they are in outstandingly strong and sturdy condition, so there was not the common problem of the direct contact on the cover s bottom edge and the spine.
The album titles are perfectly clear on the centre of the spine, the top right corner has a matt red sticker, with a picture of Paul and a sample listing of some of the key tracks.
THE THREE INDIVIDUAL COLOUR GLOSSY INNER SLEEVES ARE IN REMARKABLE CONDITION, JUST GENTLE RECORD IMPRESSIONS AND I INSIST ON GRADING THEM ALL AS MINT CONDITION.
ALL SIX LABELS ARE IMMACULATE AND HAVE NEVER BEEN NEAR A TURNTABLE, ALL THREE ARE RECORDS ARE IN 100 UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

Twenty years after the Beatles broke up and Paul McCartney had been constantly playing live gigs and touring, facts are facts, 1990 saw the release of the first live album issued under his own name and not as Wings.
The previously release live album was fourteen years earlier in 1976, which was was much closer to the Beatles being together.
Wings Over America was also when he felt comfortable performing and releasing live versions of Beatles songs, the rift between him and a then retired John Lennon was vast, in 1976 he reversed the writing credits to place his name in front of John s, in 1990 such pettiness was long over and the correct Lennon / McCartney credit was restored.
There was now a real warmth towards that Golden Decade of the 1960 s and with all the ice melted, we were now only five years away from that wonderful Anthology series when George, Ringo and Paul would get together and finish two of John s demo s and in 1995 for the first time in 25 years, a new Beatles single was released.
So much happened in the intervening years since it was twenty five years ago today when this triple LP was released, the sad death of George was the most tragic event of them all.
I am mentioning the Beatles in depth because I just typed the track titles and it felt more like I was listing a Beatles compilation 16 songs out of 37 tracks were recorded by the Beatles and a further four songs were performed by them live at various stages of their development, so over half the album paid homage to the greatest band of all time, from their bass guitarist, vocalist and songwriter.
Linda was still alive and an essential part of the band in 1990, a year when three formats were being released, Tripping The Light Fantastic was available on a double CD, a double cassette and a triple vinyl album, the sales were not that high considering the material, in the UK it made No.17 in the UK and No.26 in the USA.
The majority sold were CD s and vinyl was now as slowly dying out, the set is getting rarer as every week ticks past, I am thrilled to offer an unplayed EMI UK pressing in the ultimate condition.
I had my say about the cover s design and once the deliberately over harsh grading, I will emphasise what a beauty it actually is and holding three unplayed records speaks for itself about how it cannot possibly get any better than this, oh yes, the perfect Mint 27 page book Paul and his band began a world tour on September,1989 in Oslo, Norway, and continued to play across Europe, taking in Japan, Brazil, Canada and the USA.
An astonishing ten months of travelling and performing took him deep into the 90 s decade before the tour finally ended.
His band were, Linda, Robbie McItosh, Hamish Stewart, Chris Whitten and Paul Wickens, the recordings on this incredible triple LP set were taken from various concerts on a worldwide basis.
The book is stunning deluxe item and the whole package was so lavish, it has to be named as one of, if not the finest presentation of so many major performances, I feel it would be a pointless exercise to even attempt discussing the tracks.
The inclusion of the Abbey Road album ending medley played live was simply sensational, if the above track listing does not send the blood pumping, nothing I could write would alter that.
Back in 1990, most of those who bought Tripping The Light Fantastic on vinyl very sensibly held onto it, why this has become rare as a British pressing.
The fantastic packaging of the vinyl was reason enough not to part with it, a stunning 12 x 12, 27 page book was in effect a lavish tour programme dedicated to hearing the album, to do that would actually take you two hours 18 minutes.
The book was designed to accompany the lengthy period spent in the company of the world s greatest living artist, a deluxe glossy cover and pages, are stacked with exclusive colour pictures from the tour with the forward written by Paul.
From a major item to CD s minaturised booklet, is a mighty gulf, also all three records came in the same top quality glossy inner sleeves, all individual, with different colour pictures on the front, a purple back has the tracks in white.
Even the record labels have the album title in colour on the black Parlophone labels, my only complaint was only a single cover holding three heavy records and a substantial book, not ideal but but it does have superb artwork.
The labels and the records are like brand new, without any playing signs on all six labels or on all six 6 sides of the three records.
A few spidery white lines round the centre holes that are purely how the the centres were removed during the pressing process.
As tempting as is it is to play mint records, I have to respect the original idea of the purchase in November,990 was deliberately made to preserve them as unplayed, an offer this as an unplayed set of records.
I must admit the possibility of writing a description for 37 tracks is out of the question even for me, being an EMI first pressing, overseen by Paul who co-produced the album, I am confident they will have perfect audio.
I guarantee all my records to be as described, when I sell unplayed vinyl my guarantee remains just as firmly in place, even if I did not personally press them Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.
Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set.
When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A NO ARGUMENT MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office s new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP s, however, singles will remain unchanged.
Ebay were aware of that happening and have increased their minimum postal cost for LP s to 7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of 46.
A temporary reduction this week means we can now post LP s for 5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to 7? For LP s valued above 46, the cost will be 9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
