This falls in the rarest of rare category. Following his death, Mark s friends commissioned a limited number of cd-r copies of Mark s first album. This was an authorized release overseen by Mark s official label, Fingerprint Records. This is one of those rare official copies. Includes all of Setting Yesterday Free and 5 live tracks. Infinity Plus Three
Setting Yesterday Free
Spirit Records V-1111 1972 / Fingerprint/Silhouette Records 1998
Mark s first recording, with a folk band he formed after his conversion to Christianity around the time he finished high school and entered college. Mark played with rock and RB bands in high school, and had a rock band for a while in college in addition to Infinity Plus Three. Mark wrote six songs contributed guitar, bass, harmonica, and vocals and co-produced with Doug Milheim. While this release may sound amateurish 30-plus years later, it was similar in quality to most Jesus music of the period, and Mark s lyrics reveal an interest in metaphor, a capacity for introspection, and a careful choice of words. In the liner notes to Appalachian Melody, Mark recounted that not long after Setting Yesterday Free was released, I was getting tired of the stereotypes surrounding Christian music, so I left the group and began performing solo. It was not the last time he would make such a decision.
