Item Description

It s a God-awful small affair, To the girl with the mousy hair, But her mummy is yelling, No And her daddy has told her to go , But her friend is nowhere to be seen , Now she walks through her sunken dream, To the seat with the clearest view, And she s hooked to the silver screen.
But the film is a saddening bore, For she s lived it ten times or more, She could spit in the eyes of fools, As they ask her to focus on...
Sailors, fighting in the dance hall, Oh man Look at those cavemen go, It s the freakiest show, Take a look at the lawman, Beating up the wrong guy, Oh, man Wonder if he ll ever know, He s in the best selling show, Is there life on Mars? It s on America s tortured brow, , That Mickey Mouse has grown up a cow Now the workers have struck for fame, Cause Lennon s on sale again.
See the mice in their million hordes, From Ibiza to the Norfolk Broads, Rule Britannia is out of bounds, To my mother, my dog, and clowns.
But the film is a saddening bore, Cause I wrote it ten times or more, It s about to be writ again, As I ask you to focus on....
Sailors, fighting in the dance hall, Oh, man Look at those cavemen go, It s the freakiest show.
Take a look at the lawman, Beating up the wrong guy, Oh, man Wonder if he ll ever know, He s in the best selling show, Is there life on Mars? DAVID BOWIE: Hunky Dory LP, VERY FIRST UK PRESSING, 17th DECEMBER 1971.
ORANGE MATT,TEXTURED RCA LABEL: SF 8244 LSP 4623 MAITRIX: A1 APRS 5947 - 3E / PRS 5948 - 3E The music publishing credits on the labels are Titanic Chrysalis , the later re-issues have them as MainMan Chrysalis Limited.
The end digits and letters place this as the very first pressing, issued in a matt cover not the ultra rare fully laminated but the record is so early, it could have been placed inside the one of the few made.
ALSO HAND SCRIBED IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES AND UNIQUE TO THE VERY FIRST PRESSINGS: SIDE 1: Bobil SIDE 2: Rasputin Very lightly engraved and hard to get a clear picture of, but easily read by eye.
ORIGINAL 1971 RCA / PYE INNER SLEEVE, PLAIN WHITE WITH A DIE-CUT CENTRE, UNSPLIT UNUSED, THIS IS HARDLY EVEN AGED, IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.
FIRST ISSUE Hunky Dory 12 x 12 LYRICS INSERT, UNUSED, UNAGED AND UNCREASED, JUSYT A VERY LIGHT RECORD IN INNER SLEEVE IMPRESSION, OTHERWISE VERY CLOSE TO BRAND NEW, SO NEAR MINT CONDITION.
I have taken a close up picture of the Titanic Chrysalis music publishing credit to confirm the authenticity.
Robert Stace FIRST ISSUE COVER WITHOUT THE MainMan LOGO ON THE BACK, ONLY A Gem Production.
The cover was never used and apart from a handful of ultra laminated covers, all the covers were made from very thin cardboard and being unlaminated, they wore really poorly and rank among the weakest UK covers from the early 1970 s decade.
Especially for the era, requiring a super human effort made to perfectly store it to prevent that almost inevitable wear, well, I cannot and will not claim the impossible, but this has survived exceptionally well and great to see the colours of the artwork without any fading or rubbing, only the black border have the usual traits but to an absolute minimum.
This is one of the few 1971 first issue covers that had a plastic outer sleeve and absolutely perfect storage for the last 43 years.
There is so little rubbing I have described it by mentioning the thin black border, the main panels on the front and back are without creases, fading or scuffing, even the back is ultra clean and still like brand new.
A gentle record impression from the record and the related unavoidable tiny edge paper lines and a few minor ripples.
The rarity of an unplayed very first pressing is enormous and it seems petty to even mention unavoidable storage traits, I have sold the laminated covers and both copies had similar storage traits and certainly had creases from the heavyweight vinyl Pye used on behalf of RCA for these very first pressings.
THE HARSHEST POSSIBLE GRADING OF THIS UNUSED COVER IS EXCELLLENT / NEAR MINT- CONDITION THE IMMACULATE LABELS ARE LITERALLY LIKE BRAND NEW WITHOUT ANY SPINDLE ALIGNMENT TRACES THE EQUALLY PRISTINE, TOTALLY UNMARKED AS NEW RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

I love offering ultimate condition records and I am thrilled to offer this stunning first pressing of Hunky Dory , we all have we all have our personal favourite David Bowie single and album, for me Hunky Dory is still Bowie s best album.
The songs alone make it compulsive listening because the sheer variety of musical styles never allowed it to become stale or ever sound dated.
I did check the lyrics for Life On Mars? from the insert, but even when typing them just now, but they just roll off the tongue like a fine wine, once you start the first verse, they just pop into your mind with the memorable melody.
As I wrote them I came to the conclusion this was such a loved album worldwide, there was very little I could contribute after giving all the pressing info and album credits.
All the pieces in the credits were like a jigsaw, apart from Rick Wakeman fresh from The Strawbs, if you do re-arrange them, you can create a completely different picture, like the Strawbs, Tony Visconti had vacated and Tom Scott was the co-producer and sound engineer.
The musicians on Hunky Dory would become the inhabitants or the life on Mars and evolve into Ziggy Stardust s Spiders From Mars and David Bowie would become Ziggy.
So this album was a very special link between David s 1960 s career and the phenomena of the 1970 s decade in his adopted persona.
The music did not have to fit a theme and that was the magical part, Bowie was paying his dues to the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, with Lennon getting a name check as well.
Song For Bob Dylan speaks for itself and Andy Warhol and Queen Bitch acknowledged the Velvet Underground as his major inspirations, The Man Who Sold The World had revelled in the heavy rock of the Velvet s etc.
but in Hunky Dory I thoroughly enjoyed Bowie s return to the stunning melodies I had first heard when I bought the Space Oddity single in 1969.
Not that Hunky Dory neglected more serious subjects and heavy rock, a greatest balance of material creates masterpieces and this fantastic album effortlessly moved between the wonderful melodic pop music of Oh You Pretty Things and Quicksand .
That entered Jimmy Page Led Zeppelin territory with references to Crowley, the 1970 Led Zeppelin 3 had messages in the run-out grooves like Do What Thou Wilt , Bowie wrote a whole song about the occult.
Then you had the superb Changes as an opening track, it was only 1971 and Bowie had mapped out his future and predicted how the next decades would pan out for him.
On the subject of run-out grooves, I have no idea about the meaning of Bobil and Rasputin hand scribed on either side, but they are lusive to the very first pressings.
In spite of critical acclaim Hunky Dory failed to sell enough copies to chart first time around, RCA only had to wait for the rise of Ziggy Stardust in 1972.
Then Hunky Dory shot up to No.3 in the British charts after Ziggy hit the big time, September 1972 was not too long to wait and new fans discovered such a stunning album, many grew to love it even more than Ziggy Stardust.
Well considering I had nothing to say, I did make a reasonable input, I will respect the unplayed status of the record and offer it how it has been since leaving Pye s pressing plant...unplayed in 43 years.
Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.
Over twenty years ago now we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set.
When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A NO ARGUMENT MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY FROM THE U.K.

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office s new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP s, however, singles will remain unchanged.
