This is an original MONO USA Verve Records white label promo wlp copy of The Velvet
Underground’s first LP released in 1967 entitled “The Velvet Underground and
Nico” with the banana (removed) cover designed by Andy Warhol. This LP receives an R5 rarity rating from
Vernon Joynson as it is extremely rare and sounds better than the lighter stock
vinyl version. The front cover has a Rare
promo sticker ("D.J. Samples Promotion Copies") and the back cover has the uncensored upside down
Eric Emerson “torso” that was later airbrushed out like on my stock stereo
version of this VU LP I also have for sale.
The banana has been removed. This
West Coast wlp is the Rarest and most sought after format of VU’s first LP (or
any of their LPs for that matter), as only 50 were pressed, and lore has it
that they were distributed by Andy Warhol himself. That’s why you see a fair
number of Yellow Label Promos and only a handful of white label promo copies;
the Yellow label East Coast promos must have had about 1000 pressed, versus fifty
(50) for the white label promos.
white label promo vinyl weighs 179 grams . . . about 30 grams more than the
stock label version I have for sale.
This is a keeper
copy. I have owned four (4) other copies and this is the nicest of the
see my detailed description below and PLEASE
CHECK my Feedback which will show you my grading, Cover/Vinyl, of other LPs I
have recently sold and what the lucky people who bought them think of them and
Very Good (VG) cover with three (3) inch top seam split at right; bottom seam
with one (1) inch split and some shelf wear and just light ring wear (unlike
most copies). Some minor corner dings, and light age wear and part of the spine
is scraped at the bottom corner. The Banana
was peeled off. The Eric Emerson upside down torso looks great and is uncensored. There are some chips in
the part of the gatefold cover that does not open and house the vinyl, but runs
parallel with the opening for the vinyl.
Some light age stains on back lower left corner, and some corner rubs. The
rare “D.J. Samples Promotional copies” sticker is in nice shape with no tears,
just age wear. Please see my photos!
I did not take them for fun and frolic.
Excellent Minus (EX-) keeper copy.
Visually it appears VG+ to EX and plays inbetween or better, but like
all copies there is a touch of background noise between the opening songs, and
at the beginning/end of them. No
problems other than a few random pops.
There are no scratches or stylus marks of any concern. This is pretty much impossible to upgrade.
Labels. Near Mint (NM) labels. These White Label Promo
Labels are very important and these have no writing on them. Please see photos
of both labels.
Inserts: Comes with original Verve Records
Factory innersleeve that I found with this LP when I acquired it, but No
Worries! ThisLP also comes KL Audio Ultrasonic cleaned in a new
rice-paper style sleeve.
Packaging. I place the
vinyl in a new sleeve after cleaning it on my KL Audio Ultrasonic Cleaning
Machine, and place the cover and the separately packed vinyl in at least one if
not two plastic innersleeves that help protect against moisture damage during
this cool record transition to your record collection. I use sturdy
cardboard containers with real corners and pack with at least two insert
stiffeners, and I place stickers on the front and back of the package
indicating “Do Not Bend” and/or “Fragile” or something like that to help
facilitate a safe passage.
PayPal only. I ship promptly worldwide; sometimes the automatic eBay
invoice does not have accurate shipping if you buy more than one LP, so ignore
the automatic invoice and email me and ask for an invoice. CALIFORNIA RESIDENTS: Please add sales
Refunds. I offer full a full refund including shipping
both ways if for whatever reason you are not happy with your purchase.
