GUARANTEED Sophisticated hard bop at its best.
The cr me de la cr me of jazz, with Hank Mobley and John Coltrane on sax, Donald Byrd on trumpet, Paul Chambers on bass, Joe Jones on drums and Elmo Hope playing the piano.
Coltrane brings this a notch down as he was yet to be at the peak of his powers.
Hank Mobley is classy and brilliant as usual and Donald Byrd kicks ass.
A very good album to have, although really should ve been called Hank Mobley with John Coltrane .
The album was recorded by the Elmo Hope Sextet on May 7, 1956.
It was thus at first released under the name of pianist Elmo Hope and called Informal Jazz Prestige PRLP 7043 in 1956.
Soon after, it was retitled Hank Mobley, John Coltrane: Two Tenors same catalog number and some years later it became John Coltrane: 2 Tenors with Hank Mobley Prestige PR 7670 .
It was even reissued once under the real leader s name again in the 1970s Elmo Hope: The All-Star Sessions by Milestone.

A few light abrasions probably just sleeve scuffs inflicted in storage over the years ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting.
For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections.
Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new note: long but utterly superficial and insignificant scuff noted on Weejah , almost certainly not audible .
b The record has a deep groove an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings c The record has a Rudy Van Gelder name, or his initials RVG stamped or hand-etched in the trail-off vinyl dead wax .
On SOME Jazz labels Blue Note, Savoy, Regent, Prestige, Impulse, Verve this stamp signifies highly professional masterings either done by - or personally authorized by - the legendary engineer himself.
d The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings.
Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic.
Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording e This is the original flat-edge pressing f True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.
g Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording COVER THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER : THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD VG .
The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover: - Cover has some light ring wear nothing significant On the scale from 1 to 10 1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe , we assess the severity of ring wear as 4 VISIBLE ON BACK SIDE ONLY - Back cover has circular tarnish grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record , probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage.
The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
- Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging nothing significant .
- Minor shelf wear noted on the seams nothing significant - Back cover has a few yellowish dust speckles scattered here and there these tiny spots are not overly obtrusive or distracting - Cover has some faint ALMOST COMPLETELY ERASED AND NEAR-INVISIBLE writing on its back side less than 2 square inch in size, total NO OTHER VISIBLE FLAWS OR IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER POSTAGE SHIPPING: We offer THREE postage rates for both Domestic and International Mail: Media Mail, Priority Mail and Express Mail for domestic, and First Class, Priority International Mail, and Express International Mail for international orders.
