Item Description

BRAHMS / KONDRASHIN / KOGAN / PHILHARMONIA ORCHESTRA - VIOLIN CONCERTO IN D MAJOR , Columbia Records/EMI Records Ltd.
SAX 2307 Stereo, 1958.
Extremely rare, English stereo 1st Edition of this much sought after LP.

This first edition can be distinguished by the light blue and silver labels, plus the front laminated flip-back sleeve.
Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve with the original retained to keep it complete, of course - see photo .
CONDITION:
VINYL V.G.
No deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc.
Clean labels with just the lightest of spindle trails.
Under a bright grading lamp this LP has quite a lot of paper scuffs and light, hairline surface marks.
No real signs of heavy use or abuse, but quite a few handling scuffs and similar.
On playback, this record actually plays a bit better than it s cosmetic appearance suggests - definitely not overplayed or worn out, the music still sounds bright and strong and clear.
Plus is doesn t suffer the persistent surface noise that affects so many records from this era and the absence of any deep scratches means there are no loud thunks, etc.
That said, what it does suffer is light sporadic crackles and fainter clicks on and off across the whole LP.
These are obviously more audible in certain quiet sections, although unlike a surface noise issue, they aren t consistent so some quieter areas are unaffected and equally some imperfections do just cut through the louder parts of the concerto.
In my mind though, definitely not enough to completely write this LP off.
Of course it will be worth much less than a mint copy, but it s such a rare and expensive LP it seemed worth auctioning still.
Listening to this LP, it is very clear why it has become so sought after and even with it s flaws, the impact of the music is not diminished.
A truly great performance, recording and pressing.
Even with it s flaws, it s still so so much better than listening to some dull, sterile, remastereed CD version
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most...
but then this is ebay
SLEEVE V.G.
Not completely destroyed - no big creases, rips, tears, defacing, etc.
But it has it s flaws...
Namely, wear to the edges and particularly corners, a seam slpit along the bottom edge about 4cm in length, the lamination is starting a flake around this split and the open edge, the back is discoloured and the open edge has previously been covered by tape which has yellowed and stained the back cover in particular - see photos for further clarification
NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts.
Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records.
