Artwoods were one of the greatest British Blues / Rhythm And Blues bands from the mid-1960s, which unfortunately never achieved the success it truly deserved. Led by singer Arthur Wood or Art and hence the band s name - Ron Wood s elder brother the band also included keyboardist Jon Lord future founding member of Deep Purple and drummer Keef Hartley, guitarist Derek Griffiths and bassist Malcolm Pool. All these players, despite their tender age at the time, were excellent musicians already, which can be heard here. Due to quite strong Jazz influence, this music can be considered as early Jazz-Rock to some extent, similar to the material recorded by the Graham Bond Organization. The band managed to record only one album, one EP and several singles Definitely a classic, worth investigating

EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY ADAM BARUCH

The Artwoods only album was an enjoyable mixture of club-oriented soul, RB, and jazz with a strong organ spice, although it found them falling seriously behind their contemporaries in the British RB scene in a crucial respect. Not one of the dozen tracks was a group original, and their vocal and interpretive ability was not so strong as to make that shortfall an irrelevance. Still, it did give them a chance to stretch into some jazzy workouts and rave-ups that probably couldn t have been contained on 45s, particularly the swinging cover of Walk on the Wild Side with excellent jazz organ by Jon Lord Allen Toussaint s Can You Hear Me, with an arrangement reminiscent of the Spencer Davis Group and Bobby Bland s Don t Cry No More, one of their best RB covers.

CONDITION:

RECORD

IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight

a WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions mostly sleeve scuffs - are barely visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

b The record comes in the original Made in Great Britain poly-lined Decca stock inner sleeve.

c The record has a deep groove an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings .

d The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording

e True Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

f Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording

COVER THIS IS THE ORIGINAL, LAMINATED, GLOSSY COVER :

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT VERY GOOD VG .

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

- Cover has some light ring wear nothing significant On the scale from 1 to 10 1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe , we assess the severity of ring wear as 1 front side and 3 back side

- Back cover has circular tarnish grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record , probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other covers during the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort and with a right cleansing solution.
