LED ZEPPELIN Atlantic Records 1969 5881711st Pressing A//1-B//1 Turquoise lettering, laminated cover, grey strip, red/plum labels, Superhype credits, uncorrected Matrix 88 s not scored out , original die-cut poly lined inner sleeve.
This is a superb first pressing copy of Led Zeppelin s debut album that has been in my personal collection and lovingly looked after for over 4 decades and it sounds fantastic.
This has been described as the Holy Grail for Rock fans, one of the fabled and very rare first batch less than 2000 I believe from 1969 of one of the finest debuts and most seminal Rock albums of all time and it is in wonderful condition.
This is a great record in excellent condition that plays perfectly with fantastic sound from start to finish.
There is some very slight static on the run-ins and between tracks and the odd quiet tick just to let you know that this is vinyl, but when the music kicks in the sound is full, rich and superb from deep rumbling bass, gently tapped cymbals to thunderous drums, softly picked acoustic and stinging electric guitar and whisper to a scream vocals and harmonica.
Each instrument stands separate and clear in the stereo sound picture.
The ambience and sheer power and dynamism of the band comes across as if you are in the room with them in October 68 at Olympic Studios.
The subtle double tracking of electric piano over Hammond organ, strummed acoustic with riffing electric guitar or whispered, echoey vocal asides are as clear as a bell.
The heavy duty vinyl may be over 46 years old but due to it being a first cut pressing it has a clarity and brilliance of sound that is bright and fresh with a presence that, to my ears, is much better than the recently remastered CD There are a couple of marks on the surface but they do not seem to affect the sound and there are no jumps or skips.I would grade the vinyl as Excellent but for the visual marks and very slight surface noise it would be Near Mint .
The Matrix stamps are 588171 un-crossed 88 s, only found on original first pressing, later copies have 88 s scratched out .Mother stampers Side 1 1 2 2 ,Side 2 1 2 .
The laminated cover with grey strip at the front, bottom edge and Uptight An Outasight info on back is also in fantastic condition with the spine intact and only minimal scuffs, the slightest hint of raising of the lamination and very slight ring wear and creasing see photos .I grade the cover also as Excellent .
The deeply coloured red and plum labels are in great condition with only the slightest hint of spindle marks and no tears or writing.
The credits are Superhype Music and Jewel Music.Grade Excellent .
The original poly-lined inner sleeve British Patent No.
800513 973939 is also intact with no splits or tears.
Excellent All in all this is a fantastic album in Excellent condition with rich, clear audio quality and a cover that is also in great condition and extremely rare to find.
This is a piece of Rock Music history.
