Item Description
LED ZEPPELIN - LED ZEPPELIN a.k.a LED ZEPPELIN I , Atlantic 588171 Stereo, 1969.
Extremely rare, UK very first pressing LP of the classic debut LP by Zeppelin.
Original front and back laminated sleeve with the Turquoise lettering, orange and plum labels with the Superhype credit and most importantly of all, the original stamped matrix numbers ending in A1 and B1 are uncorrected most of the A1/B1 variants pressed have the second stamped 8 crossed out and re etched - these details clearly mark this out as the earliest possible pressing of this LP.
Mint to Ex copies of this variant regularly sell for 2000-3500, with one copy even going for much much more than that Matrix numbers both sides uncorrected SIDE A 588171 A//1 SIDE B 588171 B//1 Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve the original inner has been retained for originality- see photo CONDITION: VINYL V.G.
No deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc.
Pretty clean labels with only light spindle trails - see photos.
Under a strong direct light, this LP carries some paper scuffs and quite few light superficial surface marks.
Generally, these are far too shallow to sound on playback and this LP actually plays markedly better than it s cosmetic appearance would suggest - typical of well pressed 60s vinyl with it s lovely deep grooves Generally the sound quality on playback is very good and strong, it s certainly not suffering distortion or muffling that you would associate with over playing, which correlates with the pretty clean labels.
Saying that, as this record plays out it can t completely avoid it s cosmetic imperfections, there is a bit of occasional faint surface noise audible in some quieter and silent sections, plus the odd faint background crackle from time to time.
Definitely not in museum piece condition, but to my mind these slight imperfections definitely do not ruin the listening experience and as long as you re expecting a a 60s record not some sterile CD reissue, it s still a good example or a very rare original LP.
Ready to be enjoyed as originally intended and should sell for a more realistic price than the crazy values premium archive copies are now hitting.
Plus, there are only a very small quantity of these very rare true first pressings left at all, especially in still playable condition.
Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most...
but then this is ebay SLEEVE V.G.
No rips, no tears, no heavy creases, no defacing, or heavy ring wear, etc.
Just marked down a bit for some smaller creases in the laminate, some delamination along the spine on both sides, some light normal wear to the edges and corners and other very slight signs of previous use - see photos for further clarification NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts.
Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records.
