DEEP PURPLE: Stormbringer LP, THE VERY FIRST UK PRESSING, 16th NOVEMBER,1974.
I was amazed to find a shrink wrapped cover, is the first I have ever seen, for this particular thin mat cover, that provided the much needed extra protection.
Even an unplayed record could not prevent storage wear and this is one incredible condition, UK first pressing of Deep Purple s superb Stormbringer, I doubt very much if another exists The cover is positively UK printed by Garrod Lofthouse and not American, shrink wrapping was rare in the 1990 s, let alone the first half of the 1970 s decade.
PURPLE RECORDS LABEL: TPS 32085 .
MAITRIX: TPS 3208 A - 1U / TPS 3208 B - 1U.
The very first pressing made.
EMI do not necessarily begin with the maitrix ending 1U per side on every album, but they did for Stormbringer, a very first pressing with both sides ending with 1U, then the individual sides rose with every successive pressing batch.
AS A FIRST PRESSING THE RUN-OUT GROOVES HAVE THE HAND SCRIBED LOGO S OF KENT DUNCAN, AMERICAN SOUND ENGINEER FROM The Record Plant IN L.A.
AS WELL AS THE ABOVE STAMPED EMI MAITRIX, THE FIRST ISSUE RECORDS HAVE THIS: SIDE 1: KENDON A SIDE 2: KENDON B EMI STAMPING CODES: GDD 1 / GGT 3 I took pictures of both sets of the run-out grooves details, but had to compile the machine stamped KENDON and hand scribed A B , into one picture.
Keeping to the 12 available, that was repeated for the actual maitrix, being the starting point of all the records made before the December, 1974 release, all four items are interconnected.
This record was pressed from the same metal stamper as the Abbey Road Studio s Test Pressings, they were yet to have printed labels attached at that initial stage.
Without the Side s visually obvious, hand scribing the A B on either side gave a positive indication, they are only found on the very first pressings.
Side 1 was sourced from the first mother and Side 2 from the third mother.
ORIGINAL EMI /PURPLE INNER SLEEVE, UNUSED, BARELY AGED AND UNSPLIT BY THE HEAVY RECORD, UNPLAYED OR NOT, PERFECT STORAGE OVER THE LAST 41 YEARS PREVENTED THAT, IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.
FIRST ISSUE MATT COVER, PRINTED BY Garrod Lofthouse, STILL IN THE ORIGINAL EXTREMELY RARE 1974 SHRINK WRAPPING, THAT WAS FINISHED BEFORE THE OPENING SIDES AND NOT SEALED.
Shrink wrapping usually lives up to it s name...and shrinks, often turning corners inwards and even into creases, but not on this this cover, all the corners, edges etc.
are not contorted.
No negative affects over the last 41years and just how you see it in my pictures, this astonishing first issue cover is still looking like brand new and how it was first bought all those years ago.
TO COMPLETE THAT UNPLAYED RECORD SHOP CONDITION, I AM TEMPTED TO GRADE THE COVER BECAUSE OF THE RARITY OF BEING COMPLETELY UNWORN AND UNFADED, BUT I NEVER GRADE ULTIMATE, SHRINK WRAPPED COVERS.
IN FRONT OF THE Garrod Lofthouse CREDIT ON THE BACK BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER, IS AN ACTUAL DATE WHEN THE COVER WAS MADE 7411 Novemember 1974, PRINTED IN THE SAME MONTH THE ALBUM WAS ISSUED.
ONE FINAL FEATURE OF FIRST ISSUE COVERS, THE TOP EDGE BECOMES A SECOND SPINE WITH THE TITLES ETC.
PRINTED ON THE THIN EDGE.
A growing practice in the 70 s with the idea of reading LP titles looking down without having to separate them and pull out to find the title.
Aimed mostly at record shop displays, but the reality of 70 s single covers was they were getting so slim, the top edge was really too thin to read the printing from.
Years later, most top edges were worn in the top centre position with the average use, not this cover s top edge I took a picture of the actual side spine, I like a challenge wih my camera and the side spine is all but camouflaged because the artwork was continued over.
My side view picture of the cover, was actually clearer for the left side spine than the close up I took, if you step back sometimes the printing stands out much better.
THE IMMACULATE LABELS DO NOT HAVE ANY SPINDLE ALIGNMENT TRACES AND THE BEAUTIFUL VINYL LOOKS HOW IT LEFT EMI S PRESSING PLANT, BACK IN NOVEMBER, 1974.
THERE ARE NO SCRATCHES OR ANY FACTORY HANDLING TRACES I COULD FIND, IF THERE WAS ANYTHING VIRTUALLY INVISIBLE, IT DOES NOT WARRANT MENTIONING.
THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

Engineered By Martin Birch.
Produced By Martin Birch Deep Purple I think I said all that was needed about the condition of all the first isue only items, my opinions were formed when LP s like this were first released and unlike later generations, I know exactly how they were first bought, I have literally spent every passing decade ever since, hunting for that day of issue condition.
I get pretty close and that includes records, inner sleeves and covers from as far back as 1963, 11 years before Come Taste The Band even saw the light of day, I expect to find this cover with a positive impact from holding the record.
The shrink wrapping prevented the expected problems and all to mention is a very light impression, an unplayed record like this will be left without myself playing it, so a short description is all that is required.
Right, a personal opinion will vent an annoyance still circulating today, Deep Purple s previous albums from In Rock were all mostly guitar/keyboard fuelled heavy rock, including the immediately previous Burn .
The critics in 1974 felt Stormbringer had deviated away from heavy rock in favour of soul/r b, I read the same moan on the internet today and was amazed that is still being said.
Unbelievable, I thought it would be recognised as a direct successor to all that passed by now, first of all, all rock music originated from blues/r b and Deep Purple s debut single in 1968 was a version of Hush , an r b/soul song In the 1970 s the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin were regularly recording and performing live r b/soul based material and what is wrong with musical diversity and variety on an album? For a heavy rock track with blistering guitar from Ritchie, the album opens with the sensational Stormbringer title track, the material was perfectly balanced and surely any band with Jon Lord would have keyboards featured over two sides of an album.
Yes, I just read the moans about having too much keyboards on the album , that was not a criticism in 1974 but in 2015 What on earth does anyone expect to find on a Deep Purple classic of an album like Stormbringer, it most certainly has and so what A band can t perform Smoke On The Water incessantly, and even if they did, Jon Lord s keyboards were absolutely essential to doubling up the riff.
I dislike progressive tags because it implies the artists have reached a stage where the music stagnates, Deep Purple were just exploring different avenues and certainly not anything that wasn t part of their original roots.
Besides, new musicians bring new ideas and prevent staleness, bass guitarist Glenn Hughes was rejuvenating the band to the point, they were actually years ahead of where music was heading, the album still sounds fresh, alive and innovative.
If you read the pathetic comments I did and have yet to hear Stormbringer , ignore all of that nonsense and listen to the album with an open mind.
You will be amazed hearing such a major album and also discover what Deep Purple fans loved in 1974 and still do, when I think about the stinging criticism Neil Young had to live with every new venture, it s a sad reflection that Deep Purple are beiing stigmatised today.
I read one comment that stated Burn was the last Deep Purple album worth hearing, I dug deeper and found older Deep Purple fans were naming Stormbringer a masterpiece and their last truly great album.
I whole heartedly agree about it being a masterpiece, not quite their last great album, that s just personal opinion s and I understand the sentiment, because Ritchie Blackmore left to form Rainbow after Stormbringer .
In the same sense, you could not replace Jimmy Page in Led Zeppelin or Tony Iommi in Black Sabbath, I think I have said more than enough on the subject.
I have waited for many, many years to locate an unplayed first pressing of Stormbringer with a near perfect cover, in a way I regret fishing around on the internet, it usually produces nothing but negativity because the ego of the writer s get in the way of the simple open enjoyment of inspired music.
Pressed by EMI, I am completely confident about a record in this ultimate condition, will have fantastic sound and the tracks can be heard and enjoyed in all their original glory.
Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.
Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set.
When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A NO ARGUMENT MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY FROM THE U.K.
RECORD COLLECTOR PRICE GUIDE BOOK.
THERE IT CLEARLY STATES Sound Quality AFFECTS EVERY GRADING LEVEL AND THAT IS THE ONE AND ONLY POSSIBLE WAY TO ACCURATELY GRADE RECORDS.
i.e.
COMBINING A STRICT VISUAL INSPECTION WITH VERY CLOSELY LISTENING TO EVERY SECOND, UNLESS PERHAPS IN THE CASE OF GENUINELY UNPLAYED VINYL.
EVEN THEN WE STILL TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR A RECORD WHEN A CUSTOMER RECEIVES EITHER A SEALED OR AN UNPLAYED RECORD.

UNDER PAYPAL EBAY S GUIDELINES, ALL RECORDS WILL BE SENT VIA A FULLY INSURED TRACKABLE SERVICE.
We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office s new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP s, however, singles will remain unchanged.
Ebay were aware of that happening and have increased their minimum postal cost for LP s to 7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of 46.
A temporary reduction this week means we can now post LP s for 5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to 7? For LP s valued above 46, the cost will be 9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF 46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER 46 WILL BE SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
