Item Description

WARHORSE - VERTIGO 6360 015 1st UK Press 1970 A//2 1 1 9 and B//2 1 1 4Machined first press matrices.
Include the original polylined swirly inner sleeve.
This is the original very highly collectible 1st UK swirl Vertigo issue, which is in the top ten rarest issues on the label and barely ever comes up for auction these days.
On top of all that the music is stunning top drawer progressive rock which strangely enough did not sell anything near what e.g.
Yes or Deep Purple.
VERTIGO 6360 015 A REALLY HARD SWIRL TO FIND,ESPECIALLY IN THIS GREAT CONDITION GREAT PROG W/ST LOUIS/VULTURE BLOOD/RITUAL ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER PERPLEXING SONGCRAFT AN INSPIRATION TO MANY SUBSEQUENT TOPACTS IN AN ALTERNATE UNIVERSE I WOULD BE ADVERTISING A DEEP PURPLE ALBUM AS THE ULTIMATE RARITY AND WARHORSE WOULD HAVE FILLED STADIUMS IT IS TRULY PERPLEXING WHY WARHORSE DID NOT MAKE THE BIG LEAGUE A VERY HARD FIND A few hundred rumoured to be around 400 were ever pressed of this fantastic prog/psych album.
It is hard to understand why they never sold in larger numbers.
In all my years this is only the second time I have come across this PROGMONSTER in 30 years.
Only 400 are rumoured to be about.
Rare ...
anyone?? Under an intense light there are a few hairlines to be seen but in a far better than average condition Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy NO skips or jumps.
NO clicks , only the lightest of static on the beginning of each side.
The powerful heavy prog easily masks any static.
This is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .
Inspected under an intense lightsource and angled.
Background Info: Warhorse were a British band formed by the former Deep Purple bassist, Nick Simper.
Simper left Deep Purple in 1969, and joined Marsha Hunt s backing band.
Not long after, Simper replaced her backing band with Ged Peck on guitar and Mac Poole on drums.
When Hunt became pregnant, the band stopped touring, and Simper and Peck re-organized the group as Warhorse.
Holt became the band s singer, and they recruited keyboardist Rick Wakeman.
When their first demo was recorded in April 1970, Wakeman was replaced by Frank Wilson.Warhorse signed to Vertigo, and released their debut album, Warhorse in November 1970.
Warhorse was managed by Ron Hire, originally part of HEC Enterprises, the original investors in Deep Purple. The band began to tour, but made little progress, and the album failed to chart.
A single, St.
Louis , was also released, which also failed to chart.
By 1971, after arguments about style, Peck left and moved to classical guitar playing.
He was replaced by Pete Parks. In June 1972, their next album Red Sea was released, but soon after its release, Warhorse were dropped from the label.
Around the same time, Poole decided to leave Warhorse, for Gong.
The band carried on, and replaced Poole with Barney James.
Wakeman used both Holt and James for his solo album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth.
Warhorse s last concert in 1974 was at Polhill College, Bedford.Warhorse musicians Holt, Parks, Simper, Wilson, and Poole have since played together on occasions, including 1985 and 2005 latterly for drummer Mac Poole s 60th birthday.
WARHORSE - ORIGINAL 1970 EARLIEST UK 1ST PRESSING - VERTIGO RECORDS LABEL - VG THIS RECORD IS FANTASTICLY RARE, ESCPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION THE RECORD IS IN TOP CONDITION.
I HAVE PLAYED THE ALBUM IN FULL AND THE SOUND QUALITY I ABSOLUTELY ASTOUNDING A TRUE GEM WITH SOME UNBELIEVABLE SYMPHONIC FLOURISHES, WARHORSE SHOULD HAVE BEEN AS COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL AS YES or DEEP PURPLE ...
OOH, THE INJUSTICE ....
AND ULTRAAAA RARE THIS ALBUM BARELY SOLD 400 COPIES, HOW MANY WOULD HAVE SURVIVED??? THE COVER IS THE GREAT ORIGINAL UK EARLIEST 1ST PRESS THICK TEXTURED UNLAMINATED FOLD OUT COVER IN EX CONDITION, SEE PICTURES.
COMES WITH THE ORIGINAL SWIRLY INNER SLEEVE THIS COPY IS JUST GREAT Condition Record/Sleeve: EX/EX I have played this in FULL gt The replay is ASTOUNDING There are not any jumps, pops or skips.
Very remarkable for this 1970 vinyl This copy has not been played much at all.
The heavy vinyl with high groovewalls provide a fantastic audio experience with channelling not equalled by the later re-issue.
I played this on my Technics turntable with a Linn cartridge and through my very revealing B W three way speakers A beautiful CLASSIC with supreme songcraft, a joy to listen to ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER VINYL IN A UNIQUE EX CONDITION TO THE EYE THE PLAYBACK IS ALSO A STRONG EX.
AN IMPOSSIBLE FIND A few hundred of the LP were ever sold This is SOOOOOOOOOOO very rare ELUSIVE PROGMONSTER PERPLEXING SONGCRAFT AN INSPIRATION TO MANY SUBSEQUENT TOPACTS A VERY HARD FIND Most have been bought up by collectors This is hardly offered these days as an original first press Sensational sound quality, I have played this through in its entirety and it was a great joy NO skips or jumps.
NO clicks or crackle, hardly ever any background noise despite two very shallow scuffs, this is really a stunning heavy glossy jet black vinyl .The audio is impeccable.
Inspected under an intense light source and angled.
Vinyl: EX .
A sensational find and barely played, possibly even umplayed I have played this in FULL twice over gt The replay is ASTOUNDING I first played for a general listen and a second time for a more detailed observation on my very revealing Technics/Linn Sondek/ Rotel/ B W system.
Two tiny hairlines can be seen on side B but the great news is that these do not at all have any effect on the playback quality which is superb.
Some wispy sleeve retraction traces are visible under a strong light but again these are not at all audible and invisible in normal light, all LP s have these.
Fantastic songcraft A personal favourite of mine and I am very glad to be able to report that this is a fine slab of vinyl without any problems at all and as such worthy of inclusion of any great prog collection.
Outstanding audio delivery in all respects with a crystal clear, deep, rich, warm and detailed sound and on playback at a loud volume which is how I always listen to my LPs prior to listing and it s always an immense pleasure to return to this one there is barely any surface noise, I heard only two small clicks on side B.
This is a beautifully clean pressing and I must emphasise again how difficult it is to find a copy which plays this well .
The whole LP sounds absolutely great and plays to a high standard with superb clarity, no groove-wear and no distortion and is very strictly graded a strong EX for audio without anything untoward, hardly any static - great copy Of course, NO skips, NO jumps, NO ticks.
Gatefold Sleeve: EX.
A beautiful matt gatefold sleeve which does have light storage wear as is evident on the top and bottom edges.
The spine is 100 legible, very remarkable for this LP.
Beautiful vibrant colours, this sleeve has been in a polythene sleeve for protection for most of its life.
This beauty comes from a great prog collection and a collector who was always meticulous about his vinyl.
NO sticker tears , NO writing, NO splits on the seams and NO creases There is no writing or smudging and all in all a great presentable excellent sleeve.
This is an album that is rarely seen these days.
The very last time I have come across this was on a record fair at least fifteen years ago.
I wonder if I will ever come across another copy now ...

Though there are rarely ever any problems with my items, I always try my very best to describe everything exactly PLEASE REMEMBER to contact me FIRST, if you have any problems at all, before you leave feedback and star ratings, so I get a chance to turn any negative experience into a positive one I can always happily sort anything out for you, if you let me know you have a problem This way no one has to leave Negative/Neutral feedback - and we both walk away happy Similarly with the amount of stars, anything less than a full 5 rating is effectively detrimental to a seller s rating as lower ratings will incur higher Final Value Fees and lower priority in the bidlists eventually making it unattractive to list items on Ebay at all.
I know of at least one major previous Ebay seller who has decided not to list via Ebay again.
Please do NOT bid if you cannot give me at least 1 chance to sort everything out to your FULL satisfaction in the unlikely event of a problem.
Thanks again This an excellent investment opportunity Any questions please ask me and I will try to answer soon.
