Due to the heavy plays and damage to the music signals, I have mostly sold the later pressings and I am delighted to finally offer another very first pressing in the ultimate unplayed, true Mint condition.
TEXTURED PURPLE RECORDS LABEL: TPSA 7508 .
The white sections include the entire area aound the spindle hole, so normally grubby and stained from constant handling, not on this pair of first issue labels The have same pure white first seen 44 years ago and are without any ageing and positively no spindle alignment traces, an amazing unplayed Who Do We Think We Are.
Only the second I have personally seen since....1973.
MAITRIX: TPSA 7508 A - 1U / TPSA 7508 B - 1U That was the starting point of the pressings and the digits after the letter U would rise and rise, a very first pressing.
ALSO IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES ARE THE TWO LOGO S OF GEORGE PECKHAM, THE UK S FINEST VINYL MASTERING SOUND ENGINEER, THE ACTUAL RECORDING ENGINEER WAS MARTIN BIRCH.
NO WONDER THE FIRST UK PRESSINGS HAVE SUCH INCREDIBLE SOUND QUALITY SIDE 1,HANDWRITTEN: PORKY SIDE 2, HANDWRITTEN: - PURPLE PECKIE - EMI STAMPING CODES: GRL 2 / GRL 2 Side 1 s 2 digit was signed by Porky near by and that can be in the compiled pictures of the individual sides.
With only twelve photo s available, I compiled the spine s title underneath the full outside laying flat and the inside with the tiny coded date the cover was made, please see below for that in text.
Today has been very gloomy and I did my best with the pictures, the outside s deluxe ultra glossy, as new laminate, made it possible to demonstrate the unique shape of these very first editions outside with what light there was, winter has arrived FIRST ISSUE, 12 x 12 LYRICS INSERT, THE FRONT IS PRINTED ON SEMI-GLOSSY PURPLE THICK PAPER, AND PLAIN WHITE ON THE BACK.
Like the record, the insert has never been outside the cover, never used or handled, there are no creased, uscuffs or ageing to the white printing or the reverse plain white side.
Perfect crisp edges and corners, as the front compartment was glued together I have to allow for the insert being being inside with the record, a light impression only and therefore as close to brand new it possibly gets.

There are many, many variations for these early 1970 s Purple Records inner sleeves, there never was a custom printed sleeve made for LP s, only for singles....and they vary as well EMI just used what was available and they did the same for the many records they pressed for their own EMI labels let alone for the many they pressed contractually.
Unused, unsplit and unworn with a record impression and a few related light creases and hardly any natural ageing after 44 years.

THE INSIDE HAS A COLLAGE OF BLACK WHITE BAND MUSIC NEWSPAPER HEADLINES AND STORIES.
MAYBE WHITE IS NOT ACCURATE HERE, THEY WERE ACTUAL NEWSPAPER CUTTINGS SOURCED AND THE COLOUR IS A PALE GREY COLOUR.
NOT THE SLIGHTEST AGED AND BOTH PANELS ARE STILL EXACTLY HOW THEY WERE MADE IN 1973.
THE DELUXE QUALITY OF THE COVER, INCLUDING ULTRA GLOSSY LAMINATION ON THE OUTSIDE, UNUSED AND PERFECTLY STORED, THE LAMINATE IS STILL ULTRA GLOSSY OVER UNFADED, DEEP COLOURS OF THE SUPERB ARTWORK.
The cover was never used and was perfectly stored inside a plastic outer sleeve for every day of it s 44 years of age, there is no wear or ageing from use to any part of the gatefold cover, it has fantastic ultra glossy lamination, untouched and undulled.
So all to describe are the usual, unavoidable standing in storage traits, quite honestly, I have seen far more gatefold covers with much more standing traits from this second decade of the 2,000 s.
All covers from every decade simply have to develop a record impression, especially for early 70 s deluxe thick lamination, that is actually really gentle but I prefer discussing the subject when it is mild.
Covers cannot avoid being molded around the circular shape of the record, I introduced the expression record impression at record fairs and took that onto ebay, matt covers are equally affected by the record s internal position.
Thick cardboard, particularly laminated 60 s early 70 s gatefold covers, also a few associated laminate edge lines were formed naturally, particularly the main stress point, the spine, certainly not from use or abuse, when unplayed records are involved I do find it absurd almost apologising for offering an ultimate condition very first pressing of Who Do We Think We Are, for the unused cover, record, lyrics insert and even the inner sleeve, common sense and logic should dictates I declare all four items as Mint condition, because they are A sealed / shrink wrapped album is just as likely to have exactly the same effect in effect in 2017, as I just described for this 1973 true Mint album, because the same scenario applies to unremoved records in any constricted plastic material The standing traits include the lightest possible brushing to the standing edges, once again the spine endings will also have light rubbing, please look at my pictures for the reality of a Near Mint, unused cover A FANTASTIC VERY FIRST EDITION GATEFOLD COVER, IN NEAR MINT CONDITION.

I think I said all that was needed about the condition of all four first issue only items, my opinions were formed when LP s like this were first released and unlike later generations, I know exactly how they were first bought, I have literally spent every passing decade ever since, hunting for that day of issue condition.
I get pretty close and that includes records, sleeves and covers from as far back as 1963, ten years before Who Do We Think We Are even saw the light of day, so please excuse the frustrations of producing an ultimate and rare condition for this album, then having to grade it as if there was wear involved.
In fact, the longer I sit here describing the album, the odds are I will change that crazy cover grading to Mint- , an unplayed record like this will be left without me playing it, so a short description is all that is required anyway.
I forgot to mention my pictures of the key identification points, I compiled the maitrix pair into one picture and George Perckham s scribed logo s, Side 1 s PORKY and Side 2 s PURPLE PECKIE are also together in one picture.
It does bring them together in one picture but it takes longer to get the pictures ready, with only 12 available I have to select the most important items and make sure to give potential buyers the clearest views.
So many factors affect taking pictures of highly reflective items and they are never easy to take, you can only ever do your best.
Right, some brief album details, after the 1972 Machine Head , the line-up of Deep Purple affectionately known as Mark 2 , recorded what would turn out to be their final album, allowing for reforming in 1984 of course.
One slip and I get an email or two If you think this is easy for a worldwide internet, try it some time, it really is daunting to even attempt the basic s but I can only do my best and I rely on memories, very clear ones though.
For anyone new to the band s 1970 s albums, although they used the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio, this was not one of the many live Deep Purple album, they were following a new trend, recording studio albums in various countries around the world.
In the summer of 1972, Rome was the location and it was completed on the Stones Mobile Studio in Frankfurt, October of the same year.
I suppose the most loved track would be Woman From Tokyo, one of the earliest tracks recorded in that summer and it was written about their first tour of Japan.
I know many fans immediately look backward to their previous albums, they were very special but Who Do We Think We Are was as well, just because the sales were lower it did not reflect on the material or the band s performances, personally I love the whole LP and had to make a hard choice about which lyrics to represent it with.
Perhaps Mary Long has been overlooked because the track does not register as being very funny, the name was a pun for a real lady named Mary Whitehouse who took it upon herself to campaign against anything hinting at the so called promiscuous 1960 s.
With a steely determination to purge all our sins by stopping any hint of nudity, sex or swearing ever being allowed to corrupt us on the radio, television or any other media.
Perhaps if that was unknown, re-read the lyrics and re-listen to the track and it will all fall into place.
As I was saying, the line-up generally regarded as the ultimate Deep Purple were at their very peak and recorded a stunning album, the actual sound had the fullest dynamics and that created a truly outstanding record.
Summing up the importance of the first pressings, with so many details required to qualify, few actually are How many Deep Purple fans know to look for Gramophone on the label rims? I must avoid going through all that again, but you will only hear the stunning sound on a first pressing and as the final album by Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Jon Lord and Ian Paice, that s worth hearing at it s most potent and another reason I get frustrated about down grading a really beautiful unworn cover.
Vocalist Ian Gillan left just after this LP was issued, the reasons are unknown really, rumours blamed individuals in the band, the management and constant touring, maybe a little of everything led to Ian walking away.
Roger Glover picked up his bass and did likewise, that was the negative side but the album itself contained real gems like Place In Line and Rat Bat Blue , the incredible Our Lady found the band at that peak of creativity, it was a shame Ian left because his vocals on Our Lady were as inspired as Jon Lord s superb organ on the track.
I would have loved playing and describing the album, a very first pressing in this incredible unplayed condition is extremely rare and I will offer this unplayed, plus an immaculate unmarked EMI first pressing, does not require sound grading.
