Played through a couple of times at very loud volume on a top system prior to this listing and the audio was fantastic through out I would grade the audio as Near mint through out .
No distortion or signs that this has been over played what so ever, just crystal clear and very,very vibrant through out This is complete with the original 1st issue Garrod Lofthouse, laminated front only gatefold cover in overall top condition any marks or ware are minor in my opinion Full details below Listen to the complete album in the player below Actual recording from the vinyl Who Do We Think We Are is the seventh studio album by the British band Deep Purple, released in 1973.
It was Deep Purple s last album with singer Ian Gillan and bassist Roger Glover until Perfect Strangers came out in 1984.
Musically, the record showed a move to a more blues based sound, even featuring scat singing.
Although its production and the band s behavior after its release showed the group in turmoil, with frontman Gillan remarking that we d all had major illnesses and felt considerable fatigue, the album was a commercial success.
Deep Purple became the U.S.
top selling artist of the entire year.
The album also featured the energetic hard rock single Woman from Tokyo , which has been performed on several tours by the band over the years.
Despite massive sales, the group disintegrated among much infighting between band members as well as conflicts with their managers.
The album s line-up would come to an end after a final concert in Osaka, Japan on June 29, 1973 Who Do We Think We Are was recorded in Rome in July 1972 and Frankfurt in October 1972, using the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio.
Woman from Tokyo , the first track recorded in July 1972, is about touring Japan for the first time e.g.
the lyric Fly into the Rising Sun .
The only other track released from the Rome sessions is the out-take Painted Horse .
The rest of the album was recorded in Frankfurt after more touring including Japan .
Ian Gillan left the band following this album, citing internal tensions widely thought to include a feud with Blackmore.
However, in an interview supporting the release of the 1984 Mark II Deep Purple comeback album Perfect Strangers, Gillan stated that fatigue and management conflicts also had a lot to do with it.
The original album artwork has many quoted articles from newspapers.
One of them is from magazine Melody Maker of July 1972, where Ian Paice says: Deep Purple get piles of passionate letters either violently against or pro the group.

Although Woman from Tokyo was a hit single and other songs picked up considerable airplay, the group - riven with internal strife - struggled to come up with tracks that everyone could agree upon.
Members of the band were not speaking to each other and many songs were only finished after carefully arranged schedules could be worked out for the band of fighting musicians to record their parts separately.
Despite the chaotic birth of the album, the fans bought it in record numbers.
In the US, for example, it sold half a million copies in its first three months.
It hit number 4 in the UK charts and number 15 in the US charts.
It also achieved a gold record award faster than any Deep Purple album released up to that time.
These numbers helped make Deep Purple the best selling artist in the U.S.
in 1973 with the prior acclaim for Machine Head and Made in Japan helping much as well .
Some retrospective critical reviews of the album have been mixed to negative.
Reviewer Eduardo Rivadavia of AllMusic writes: Except for opener Woman From Tokyo , which hinted at glories past with its signature Ritchie Blackmore riff, the album s remaining cuts are wildly inconsistent and find the band simply going through the motions.
The energetic Rat Bat Blue is a memorable exception to the rule, with its start-stop rhythm and Gillan s fine scat singing Side one 1.

test is featured around the label rims only 1st press I can see very little amount of spidering and hardly any spindle ware at all The hole is perfectly round and very tight on the spindle which indicates that this has been played a very minimal amount of times in my opinion The vinyl The vinyl is absolutely superb on initial visual inspection, and still retains its sheen from new The vinyl lays perfectly flat on the turntable and is free of warping.
I notice minor manufacturing imperfections on the surface which has little if no effect on the playback that I heard at all.
please note this vinyl has barely ever been played and not been over played at all in my opinion The record plays through absolutely perfectly throughout There are there no signs of groove ware or distortion I have played this through track for track and the audio quality is superb crystal clear and extremely vibrant Any light whispy marks that could possibly be seen would be sleeve removal only The Audio Quality I have played this track through a couple of times prior to listing at very loud volume on a top system.
The audio on this pressing in my opinion is very near, as good as it gets for a very early UK pressing Even in between tracks there is extremely minimal noise lovely and quiet I would class myself as highly critical and this is a truly exceptional sounding vinyl and the by this awesome Progressive Rock band DEEP PURPLE This is one of the best sounding copies that I have heard the separation is superbe and extremely vibrant and bassey feel through out Please check my completed listings of records that i have sold of this caliber and you will see that i normally get it right top top audio throughout no loud constant clicks, pops and certainly no jumps or skips at all Audio graded at least excellent plus to near mint throughout Please note I always add this disclaimer Please allow for isolated very light background static between tracks or quieter places.
Not consistent through out the audio Please remember that this is an original 44 year old vinyl no a reissue that would have originally been played on a 44 year old system.
A constant clean before each play is highly recommended.
This album has been stored in a case laying dormant for over 40 years.
A build up of dirt and dust in the grooves causes static/crackle.
Cleaning before each play will reduce any static and enhance the audio quality.
It is noted that debret was seen on the playing surface after play testing this vinyl.
The record sleeve This is the plain white paper sleeve with made in Great Britain and patent number printed on one side no splits or tares Becoming fragile with light browning/fading with age only.
The vinyl is now always stored separately from the vinyl The lyric sheet inner This is the original lyric sheet inner is superb condition just light creasing and smal corner crease bottom right to mention.
The cover This is the original GARROD LOFTHOUSE PRINTED laminated front only gate fold cover.
In exceptional condition for 44 years old These originals are scarce and very hard to find in this condition after 44 years Super glossy appearance Amazingly no real nasty creases worth mentioning very minor minimal laminate creases at the edges and at the spine end and slight vinyl impression noticed on the front and slight laminate rubbing, not really noticeable unless you look for them in my opinion The spine has not suffered from crushing and all text is readable.
