DEEP PURPLE: Powerhouse LP, VERY FIRST UK PRESSING, ISSUED LATE DECEMBER, 1977.
I cannot give the exact release date but it was positively in December, 1977 because I bought the album just before Christmas in 1977.
Wild claims on the internet start at November,1977 up to early 1978, those making the claims clearly did not buy it.
A fantastic album from the great Mark II line-up , entirely made up from unreleased studio and live performances, served up with rare B-sides, Deep Purple at their most inspired and why this line-up created such fantastic music.
Powerhouse indeed However, those were not the sentiments of UK record buyers that Christmas in 1977.
Shock, horror A new Deep Purple album failed to sell so poorly, Powerhouse never made a UK chart entry, yes, plenty of re-issues followed and mostly in the 1980 s when the economy recovered, so genuine first pressings in Mint condition are so rare, this is the first time I have been able to list Powerhouse on ebay, this is the very first pressing made and even EMI s inner sleeve is dated as December,1977.
PURPLE RECORDS LABEL: TPS 3510 OC 062 60 072 MAITRIX: TPS 3510 A - 1 / TPS 3510 B - 1 The maitrix ending s began with A - 1/ B - 1 but the end digits would not increase a great deal due to the commercial failure.
EMI STAMPING CODES: AM 2 / RM 2 The mothers for anticipated high selling albums were made before vinyl manufacturing began, they were necessarily used in numerical order, as the mothers were identical, all that mattered was monitoring the soft metal discs and changing them before wear began.
Why the digits differ often so much per side, this first pressing was sourced from the 2nd 5th mothers.
THE RUN-OUT GROOVES HAVE THE HAND SCRIBED ABBEY ROAD SOUND ENGINEER LOGO, NICK W WHO CREATED A SUPERB SOUNDING Powerhouse.
ORIGINAL 1977 EMI Care Of Your Record INNER SLEEVE, UNAGED AND UNSPLIT, WITH ONLY A RECORD IMPRESSION AND A FEW MINOR RELATED LIGHT CREASES, IN MINT- CONDITION.
A date was printed on the front bottom rim and how important that becomes when an unplayed, true Mint very first pressing record enters the equation.
The cover ids dated to being made in November, 1977 and this priceless 38 inner sleeve confirms the album was in British record shops before Christmas 77.
12/77 December, 1977 As if a huge record company like EMI, in conjunction with the band s own Purple label, would release a new album after the Christmas period The freshly printed new inner sleeves had the just pressed records placed inside the covers, made a few weeks earlier.
I wish internet sites would just be honest and say, I do not know, or at least use common sense if they are unaware of the above and below coded dates printed would give then huge clues VERY FIRST ISSUE COVER, UNFORTUNATELY A MATT COVER THAT WORE AS YOU LOOKED AT IT IN 1977 ALONE I always tell it how it was, praising the top quality laminated covers is too easy, critising the lower grade covers is just as important in 2015 as I felt in 1977.
So much attention went into the mixing, mastering and vinyl, why place records into very fragile, easily worn covers? A legacy of quality was crumbling in the stark economics of 1970 s Britain but not for the vinyl and the sensational sound quality created in Abbey Road.
Unplayed records escaped the worst punishment and this is a really superb condition very first made cover, with only relatively minor storage traits of standing, just having the thin sheen top surface preserved the outstanding colours on the front and back, positively no ring wear and virtually no edge, corner and opening sides wear.
Of course there had to be a record impression and a few related edge lines, mostly next to and over the spine but all the printing is 100 present and clear on a great spine with a few ripples.
I will still grade it strictly, but not before I emphatically state yet again, with an unplayed record inside, the condition reflects natural events only.
Printed by Garrod Lofthouse , next to their credit on the back is the encoded date it was made, 7711 November,1977, a few weeks before the album was released.
A superb looking cover and I am delighted proud to present a major Deep Purple LP in the very finest condition possible.
THE UNUSED COVER IS EXCELLENT / NEAR MINT CONDITION.
THE IMMACULATE LABELS DO NOT HAVE ANY SPINDLE ALIGNMENT TRACES, THE RECORD DOES NOT HAVE ANY MARKS OR SCRATCHES .
I COULD NOT FIND ANY ANY HANDLING TRACES, SO NEAR INVISIBLE /INVISIBLE.
THE RECORD ALSO LOOKS LIKE NEW AND WILL HAVE STUNNING SOUND QUALITY BUT I WILL NOT PLAY IT MYSELF.
THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED MINT CONDITION.
As an album entirely of previously unreleased live and studio tracks, I will include the recording details and under the titles, The duration of the tracks are relevant to live performances in particular, so i will include them.

Mixed By Martin Birch Produced And Compiled By Deep Purple.
Needless to say I will be holding back from playing and describing the album in full, 14 years was a long time for me to produce a Deep Purple album from 1977....
unless the rarity of my condition standards creates a scarcity.
I have given the track details, pressing info and a few personal opinions, backed up by a full dozen pictures of all discussed, I will make this one of my shorter descriptions for a change.
Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.
Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set.
When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A NO ARGUMENT MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.
I USE GOOD OLD COMMON SENSE AS WELL AS A GLOBALLY ACCEPTED GRADING TERMINOLOGY FROM THE U.K.

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office s new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP s, however, singles will remain unchanged.
Ebay were aware of that happening and have increased their minimum postal cost for LP s to 7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of 46.
A temporary reduction this week means we can now post LP s for 5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to 7? For LP s valued above 46, the cost will be 9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF 46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER 46 WILL BE SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
