An original of this obscurity only 100 were pressed will easily set you back four digits. From Ohio, this early 1970 s quartet s lp has been the subject
to quite a bit of hype over the years. The music fits this scene perfectly and translates that feeling of no
hope and despair - that ended up being quite accurate historically
speaking. This Morning absolutely jams, in the tradition of bands like
Cargo Netherlands , Wishbone Ash, and Man. Gary s Thought adds a bit
of Take 5 era Dave Brubeck piano for a cool jazzy vibe to end the day.
As mentioned above, their
exceedingly rare 1971 album Transitions routinely sells for 1,000 .
While the album s frequently labeled as being psychedelic blues rock, a lot of the
seven extended tracks are guitar-propelled rockers. Singer/keyboardist
Bill Marren s responsible for most of the set, though brothers Joe and
John Estes and bassist Don Smith each contribute a track. The sound
quality is surprisingly good with Joe Estes drums and John Estes lead
guitar seemingly getting special attention in the mix. Bluesy hard rock
tracks such as the extended jam This Morning , Do What Is Real and
Gary s Thought are good enough to stand up to any of their better
known compatriots. This album is a gem, and the perfect representation of the blue collar characteristic spirit of the day.
