Item Description

ULTRA RARE and CLASSIC original UK advanced promotion copy 45 from 1966

RARE RARE RARE RARE

This is from my own collection and has been in my possession since the very early 1970 s

I am not a dealer, I am not an expert, but as a teenager I worked in a record shop and I do have a large trunk full of LPs and singles most bought new between 1963 1983. Rather reluctantly I need to downsize my collection so, in no particular order, here we go. This won t be a quick job, they will all be checked first and some I know are ultra rare: Doowop, Rockabilly, and plain bizarre

I try to describe accurately and honesty all items I offer for sale, if you are unsure or want more information please ask.

I will mention all defects or flaws I am aware of.

If I miss anything it s not deliberate and I offer a money back guarantee. Check my feedback and bid with confidence

All pictures are of the actual item and not digitally improved.

Please assume all records I offer DONT jump or stick unless I say they do. If they do on your equipment, I won t argue - just send it back for a refund. I am NOT liable for return postage or other costs.

DAVID BOWIE
DO ANYTHING YOU SAY / GOOD MORNING GIRL

7N17079A-1 S / 7N17079B-1 S

Released 1st of April 1966

Very little needs to be said about this single described by experts as a 100 killer twin spin 45

IMO this is arguably the record that moved Bowie onto the ladder of success.

AUDIO GRADING this 45 plays EX with stunning rich and warm sound reproduction throughout.

There is very little crackling on run in or out.

VISUAL GRADING is full gloss VG except one slight light surface mark on the A side totally inaudible see picture.

LABELS are as seen in the pictures please look with full original 1 APR 1966 PROMO stamp. There is also an original number sticker: 2812

COVER is original and clean except for a catalogue number 5406 in the corner put on many years ago, again see the pics.

The record is as it is, I have not cleaned it beyond lightly using an anti-static record cloth before playing.

NO RESERVE, FREE UK POSTAGE, OVERSEAS POSTAGE WILL BE AT COST

OVERSEAS POSTAGE IS LISTED HIGH TO COVER TRACKING TO ALL DESTINATIONS

PLEASE ASK FOR AN ACCURATE SHIPPING COST, I WILL REFUND ANY SAVING.

SOMEONE WILL BE A VERY HAPPY BUNNY

GENERAL GUIDE TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS

Based on the Rare Record Collector Guide
Goldmine Equivalent In US which states:

MINT:
The record itself is in brand new condition
NONE OF MY RECORDS ARE MINT

EXCELLENT:
The record shows some signs of having been played,
but there is very little lessening in sound quality.
The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD:
The record has obviously been played many times,
but displays no major deterioration in sound quality,
despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch.
Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items,
without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD:
The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated,
perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches.
The cover and contents suffer from
folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR:
The record is still just playable but it has not been cared for properly
and displays considerable surface noise it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn,
stained and/or defaced.

USE OF DESCRIPTION TERMINOLOGY:

Surface Marks Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound.

Scratch a needle mark that goes below the record s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform.

Original a record that has been pressed with the recognised first label design, does NOT neccessarily mean a very first pressed record.

First Pressing A record that I believe to be a genuine very first pressed record. I may be wrong so that s why I will state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who know what they mean, the information is there for the collector to decide.

Surface Sound Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar.

Distortion Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality.

PLAY-GRADING:

Some I will. Some I wont. I m copying the tracks I like on to CDs. Others I ll listen to extracts only. Some I cant bear to listen too and many I just haven t got the time to play-grade. If there are suspect visual marks I ll usually play grade and describe any audio faults.

From another sellers description sold in 2010 :

It goes without saying that this is an impossibly hard to find 45
Released as David Bowie, his backing band The Buzz remained uncredited on this 45. -This we suppose may possibly have been due to the fact that in 1966 Columbia also released a 45rpm by a band who were also called The Buzz - They also released only one single as well i.e. - You re Holding Me Down / I ve Got A Buzz ... a very cool 45 . But this other Buzz came from Scotland. It was a completely different and unrelated band and it did NOT feature David Bowie.
David Bowie s THE BUZZ formed around February 1966. The line up consisted of David Bowie on vocals guitar and saxophone, John Hutch Hutchinson on guitar, John Ego Eager on drums, Derek Chow Boyes on keyboards, and Derek Dek Fearnley on bass guitar.
Derek Dek Fearnley left the band later that year in June and was replaced by Billy Gray Haggis , who also left the group around November time after which the band then apparently continued for a while as a 3 piece.
Presumably inspired by hearing this 45 good old Radio London sponsored half a dozen Sunday Afternoon shows at the London s famous Marquee Club in Soho, that ran from April through until mid June called The Bowie Showboat ...
Although we auctioned another rare and early David Bowie demo quite recently, we still like to think that this is actually his best early single...
A very rare opportunity to grab this rare and highly sought after David Bowie 45 in it s demo form and it would make a perfect addition to any serious DJ or David Bowie collection -
Don t miss it
Although we always welcome new ebayers - Due to the rarity of this particular 45 we request that
if you have under 10 positive feedback that you please contact us before placing a bid on this item...
