Some of it is the work of 30 years of collecting. I ll be sad to see these go - but they need re-homing for others to enjoy.
Keep an eye out for my listings over the coming weeks...
Absolute classic UK first pressing on plum and orange Atlantic labels.
A truly stunning copy - the only way to hear this album
Sleeve EX, vinyl EX to EX .
Overall, a fabulous copy of this VERY sought-after gem. The rich audio clarity of this copy is quite amazing.
No pops or ticks and lies lovely and flat.
NOTE: this particular copy has the Warner credits on the labels, NOT the Superhype credits.
The full stamped matrix is below. The second 8 shown here in inverted commas indicates the corrected hand-etched number .
Side A: 58 8 171 A//1 1 2 3 7
Side B: 58 8 171 B//1 1 3 2 1
Some say this makes it a transitional copy, other more sceptical types say it might have had the cover swapped out with a better condition vinyl from an orange-lettered copy from slightly later on. Either way, the sleeve is the main attraction here - with the insanely rare turquoise lettering.
I would wager that many copies got upgraded along the way as it was the sort of album that got played to death. Maybe the original owner bought an orange lettered copy a few months later and swapped out the vinyl - not knowing in 1970, that the tiny detail of the Superhype credits would matter so much to collectors these days This said, if you wanted to pair up this sleeve with a Superhype credited vinyl, then it could be done very easily and relatively cheaply as perhaps has been done so in the past. A mint condition LZ1 with orange lettered sleeve and Superhype label credits might sell for 100- 150 max - but usually a lot less .
The fully laminated single thickness sleeve grades a solid EXCELLENT EX on the front and back - absolutely stunning, with very little fade or loss of colour. There is one slight tidemark or watermark, visible on the bottom left corner of the front and bottom right of the reverse of the sleeve. There is no associated buckling here - the sleeve lies perfectly flat despite this. This is the only flaw with the sleeve - if you can really call it that. It has the grey/silver strip of print included at the bottom.
The front side shows some half mooning finger wear in the lamination, light creases in the laminate caused by handling/opening - this is not too bad and only really visible when angled the wrong way into a light source. I have showed this on the photos showing the opening edge of the sleeve. There are no actual cover creases and there are no unsightly areas.
Sometimes the spine area suffers from laminate creasing/bending and ends up getting grubby between the cracks in the laminate. Luckily this sleeve has survived extremely well compared to other examples.
The spine of the sleeve is in great shape too - all whiteness and text is there, with very little to fault it. see detailed photos .
Plum and orange 1st press Atlantic labels are in EX condition.
Along with Are You Experienced by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin I in this format is one of the top most influential and significant debut albums by any rock act. This is a rare artefact of pure 20th Century Classic Rock history.
