Jim Shepard and Vertical Slit, Slit and Pre-Slit for Your Convenience , no label from 1977.
If you are reading this auction, you probably already know what this is, so I will not go into a long explanation, there is a lot of information if you do a google search, but this is a very rare, original, private pressing by legendary Ohio artist Jim Shepard called Slit and Pre-Slit for Your Convenience.
Only 100 copies were made back in the day and they rarelyturn up for sale.
This was his first vinyl release.
The trail off area reads: MUSICOL 102553 on side 1, and MUSICOL 102554 on side 2, with the initials JMH, and both sidesalso say STEP 1 Very home made feel, lo-fi, DIY vibe all the way through, touching on punk, industrial, prog, psych, etc...very strange andweird.
Most original copies had a photocopied drawing taped to the cover.
This one does not have it and it does not look like it ever did, there is no tape residue and no tears on the cover.
Instead, Jim wrote the title in pen, and the credits on the back.
Jim also hand numbered all the labels of original pressings, this is 19, a nice, low number Supposedly, he gave many copies away...Lester Bangs, David Bowie, whoever came through town that he could meet..so most copies have disappeared forever.
I have seen originals for sale on eBay only twice in the past few years, so don t miss your chance to get this very rare gem The original cover is somewhat frayed around the edges, and is discolored after all these years, and I d say is a VG The disc is a nice VG to VG , the vinyl has all its gloss and shine, shows a few light marks and scuffs but plays great all the way through with only light surface noise and a few clicks.
