Jugband Blues Syd BarrettBarrett3:00 A Saucerful of Secrets is the second studio album by Pink Floyd, released on 29 June 1968 by EMI Columbia in the United Kingdom following adverts in Melody Maker giving that date and released on 27 July 1968 in the United States by Tower Records.
The album was recorded before and after Syd Barrett s departure from the group.
With Barrett s behaviour becoming increasingly unpredictable, he was forced to leave the band and David Gilmour was recruited in January 1968.As a result, A Saucerful of Secrets became the only non-compilation Pink Floyd album on which all five band members appeared, the first for Gilmour, with him appearing on six songs all except Jugband Blues , and the last for Barrett, with him on three Remember a Day , Jugband Blues and Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun .
Despite the reference that Gilmour had appeared on six songs, it is actually only five because he was not present on Wright s Remember a Day that Barrett played on the song was recorded in October 1967 before Gilmour was asked to join the band as a fifth member .
Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun was the only song all five members appeared on together.
The band s drummer, Nick Mason, has declared A Saucerful of Secrets to be his favourite Pink Floyd album and is considered an early Pink Floyd masterpiece.
A great complete 1st pressing of this iconic album.
ALBUM PLAYED FOR GRADING: Yes brilliant - TOP AUDIO A Saucerfull of Secrets is a musical epic and is is extremely hard to find in great audio condition.
Worn copies can have a lot of surface sound even on musically complex and busy tracks like Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun .
I am very pleased to say that this rare 1st pressing plays through with great, very bright un disturbed audio.
There is not a single repetitive click, tic or pop, it really is a great example and plays with a deep full bassy sound.
Strong audio free of any loud pops or clicks.
It has not been over played, in fact its barely been played at all.
The channels are clean and unstressed and there is not even a hint of distortion anywhere on the record.
I will give a detailed account below: This great sounding record starts with surprisingly little static in that famous extremely long run in heart beat intro to Let There Be More Light .
Great clear sound, the track plays superbly with barely a single light tic the kind found on all vinyls and no pops at all.
There is some light occasional static but nothing that noticeable.
Its a great sounding vinyl.
Remember a Day is delicate track also sounds extremely clear and the whole of the first side really plays with incredibly clear audio throughout.
Set The Controls for the Heart of the Sun , so often heavily distorted and affected by clicks and hiss plays through with amazing clarity and bright loud sound.
There is some very light occasional static and two or three occasional tics.
A couple of light tics between tracks.
Corporal Clegg sounds great with super clear sound, no loud pops of clicks and little noticeable static.
This track just sounds amazing, its so bright and clear.
A truly great sounding record.

There is some light occasional static and a few random tics during the quiet introduction, but they are light.
It plays with an amazing bassy, sonic feel, the original sound that is very hard to find, and lost on most pressings.
See Saw starts with very clear sound.
There is no light static and no light tics.
This track is nearly always plagued by loud pops, clicks, static and even distortion, and this press has none of these, it just sounds clean and bright.
Jugland Blues sounds superb, great clear sound.
No background static, just a light static tic at the start of the track and one click towards the end.
This record plays with staggering power, great audio with very little surface sound at all to distract from the enjoyment of this great album.
The music jumps out, with definition and clarity, particularly on the percussion instruments, and vocals, which come through with tremendous power.
As is the same with the bass and drums, whilst the guitars come through crisp and clear.
This lp plays with superb, clear bright audio.
I have given a detailed account and l believe I have been unforgiving in pointing out the slightest audio interference on what is a great 1st pressing.
I would give an audio grading of EXCELLENT to NEAR MINT THE RECORD Visual Grading A stunning piece of glossy vinyl, this rare 1st press is really thick and chunky, with amazing deep clear grooves.
In daylight and under a spot light it looks pretty much unmarked, and that is extremely unusual.
A couple of ultra faint, whispy hairlines only, and they are really light.
A really wonderful example that is little played Graded at EXCELLENT to EXCELLENT PLUS.
THE LABELS A lovely set of labels, largely unmarked with a couple of very light spindle traces on either side.
These are an great pair of labels that look like they ve barely seen a turntable.
A lovely set, they have no spindle wear, and certainly no writing, finer prints or other marks.
Graded at NEAR MINT.
VINYL TESTED FOR ANY SIGNS OF WARPING: Yes, NONE visible what so ever when tested be sight and on a moving turntable.
THE COVER The album cover, designed by Hipgnosis, contains a hidden image based on a panel from a 1967 Dr.
Strange comic book story, drawn by Marie Severin.
This 1st pressed Cover is in great condition.
A few minor creases and very light scratches only.
These are different to all other covers from the UK pressings.
These covers themselves are rare and very valuable, and so hard to find with out heavily worn edges, corners and surfaces.
This 1st Press Cover has very little scuffing to the corners, and no rubbing along the edges.
The opening edges are very square and un frayed, with there is no detectable ring wear on either the rear or front cover.
There is the faintest impression on the record on the rear only but no actual ring wear loss of colour.
The back cover is extremely clean, again with only a very light impression of the vinyl.
The Spine shows little wear, and is a nice square example.
All round, this is a really great example.
Graded at EXCELLENT.
THE INNER Original picture inner sleeve in great condition.
No tears, stains and NO seem splits at all.
The flip backs are fully intact, fully flat and pressed down.
It would be hard to better.Graded at EXCELLENT PLUS.
RARITY A Saucerfull of Secrets is an Iconic album.
It is a great collection of music, was only the second of the Floyd s albums and the only one with all five members.
The 1st pressings were produced in a very small run, and an original UK 1st pressing in great condition is extremely rare indeed.
It is one of the hardest pieces of vinyl from the 1960 s to find with great audio.
The cover is almost impossible to find without serious wear, even modestly worn examples are scarce and this one is a brilliant example.
The vinyl is so often played so much, heavily marked, scratched, with noisy, poor and distorted sound.
Any example with a record in great condition, that plays superbly, is extremely are.
