GUARANTEED By condensing the sonic explorations of Meddle to actual songs and adding a lush, immaculate production to their trippiest instrumental sections, Pink Floyd inadvertently designed their commercial breakthrough with Dark Side of the Moon.
The primary revelation of Dark Side of the Moon is what a little focus does for the band.
Roger Waters wrote a series of songs about mundane, everyday details which aren t that impressive by themselves, but when given the sonic backdrop of Floyd s slow, atmospheric soundscapes and carefully placed sound effects, they achieve an emotional resonance.
But what gives the album true power is the subtly textured music, which evolves from ponderous, neo-psychedelic art rock to jazz fusion and blues-rock before turning back to psychedelia.
It s dense with detail, but leisurely paced, creating its own dark, haunting world.
Pink Floyd may have better albums than Dark Side of the Moon, but no other record defines them quite as well as this one.
EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY STEPHEN THOMAS ERLEWINE, ALL MUSIC GUIDE /ALLMUSIC.COM/ Japanese PRO-USE series audiophile pressings are literally and figuratively the PINNACE of pure analogue sound.
They were produced in EXTREMELY limited press runs ranging from 1000 to 2000 copies , under virtually laboratory conditions and never ever replicated or reproduced again.
In terms of sheer sound, they are a diamond standard by which all other audiophile pressings are being measured.
PRO-USE Series is roughly to any other regular Japanese pressing what Mobile Fidelity s UHQR pressings are to a regular MFSL audiophile pressing.
It is one or two whole levels above and beyond mere improvement in sound it is a whole different soundscape.
The Japanese hi-grade , virgin-vinyl, extended-dynamic range vinyl pressings - while they were imported in the 1970 s and early 1980 s - were audiophile and connoisseur delights we have not seen some of these titles in circulation in years some of them are highly collectible .
These majestic recordings received an intense, meticulous and laborious treatment like very few other recordings did.
They are characterized by the boosted dynamic and frequency range, almost compulsive attention paid to the fine detail and integrity of the pressing and highest quality of the material.
Many of these recordings remain unsurpassed, delivering music reproduction as close to the actual recording session as possible.
In the best tradition of some of the major Japanese corporations - such as RCA Victor Co.
Nippon , Warner-Pioneer Corporation of Japan or EMI-Toshiba Corporation - the sound quality of the Japanese pressings is, generally, truly extraordinary - much better, we firmly believe, than the corresponding first pressings of the albums in question.
THE RECORD COMES IN A METICULOUSLY REPLICATED ORIGINAL COVER, DELICATE PVC-INNER SLEEVE RESEMBLING FINE RICE PAPER INNER SLEEVE, LYRICS AND ALBUM DATA INSERT AND WITH THE ORIGINAL JAPANESE OBI PAPER RIBBON WITH ALBUM INFO, STILL WRAPPED AROUND THE COVER This is a rare opportunity to acquire this great album in its finest audio format, no longer in print, and no longer easily obtainable.
For its extraordinary contribution to the modern music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, writers and general public, or for some other innate quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, legendary BBC Radio A R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow a/k/a Cousin Brucie , Tim Rice of Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita fame , Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton who wrote liner notes for Bob Dylan s first album , Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc.

b The album is believed to come with the original Japanese-only insert c The record is believed to come in in its original inner, hi-grade PVC inner sleeve, which has - apparently with success - shielded the record from the harmful impact of elements over many years d The album is believed to come with BOTH posters and BOTH stickers/decals e The album comes with the original Japanese OBI ribbon/sash around the cover f Like all Pro-Use releases, this record is pressed on a beautiful, high-quality, virgin-grade vinyl, which is usually used for audiophile, extended-dynamic-range, half-speed mastered and connoisseur pressings.
g In addition, the record is pressed on a RELATIVELY thick, inflexible vinyl.
This is NOT a thin, flimsy dynaflex type , vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.
