Item Description

JULIA DREAM Roger Waters, 1968 Sunlight bright upon my pillow, Lighter than an eiderdown.
Will she let the weeping willow, Wind his branches round?, Julia dream, dreamboat queen, queen of all my dreams, Every night I turn the light out.
Waiting for the velvet bride, Will the scaly armadillo, Find me where I m hiding? Julia dream, dreamboat queen, queen of all my dreams, Will the misty, master break me? Will the key unlock my mind? Will the following footsteps catch me? Am I really dying? Julia dream, dreamboat queen, queen of all my dreams.
PINK FLOYD: It Would Be So Nice / Julia Dream 45 RPM SINGLE, WITH A PUSH-OUT CENTRE, IN MONO.
THE VERY RARE FIRST UK PRESSING, ISSUED 19th APRIL,1968.
THIS WAS NOT SOLD IN A RECORD SHOP, BUT RETAINED BY EMI / PARLOPHONE AS A RARE Factory Sample.
SIDE 2 s LABEL HAS AN AUTHENTIC EMI RED WHITE STICKER WITH Factory Sample - Not For Sale Please see my close up picture for how an authentic 49 year old, EMI Factory Sample sticker looks like, unlike fake stickers appearing daily on ebay, the paper is thickly textured and no copy ever made looks like the real thing.
Plus no two stickers are identical, like the 60 s decade, the individual nature affected where it was stuck and at which angle, how it has aged and also how it has worn, with some trace of an edge left etc.
etc.
Even which side of the record varied and they most certainly were placed on the A-side of a single, or Side 1 of an EP LP, they were not promoting anything, just being retained by the record company.
There simply was not the number of records with Factory Sample or Manufacturers Property stickers, made or used in the 60 s and 70 s, listed on ebay every day, even on totally different record companies What you see in close up on this It Would Be So Nice label, cannot be artificially photo copied to con buyers, hopefully that picture will prevent a buyer being fooled.
Ebay will deal with sellers who sell counterfeit items....only if you report it, then they have to implement their most basic rule.
The facts are, stickers with Factory Sample or Manufacturers Property do NOT make records selected for retention by record companies, Promo s or Demo s, as sellers state.
They were selected at random and certainly not pressed specifically to be Demo s or Promo s, EMI and most major s had specific labels made for Demo s and Promo s.
A record like this with a Factory Sample sticker is....a Factory Sample.
The earlier 60 s stickers in the 60 s like this, were very small and that is another way to identify the fakes.
Also look for signs of an authentic sticker being used previously on a different record, sellers remove them from records of low values and glue them on standard records that are desirable.
Now I can concentrate on a stunning condition, once played, completely unmarked It Would Be So Nice / Julia Dream first pressing.
1960 s records never fail to surprise and confound logic, this also has the most astonishing Tax Code embossed on the label I have ever seen EMI S SILVER BLACK TEXTURED COLUMBIA LABEL: DB 8401 MAITRIX: 7XCA 32056 - 1 / 7XCA 32057 - 1 A really low pressing and as expected for a genuine Factory Sample, they are rarely first of the first pressings, but this is not far from that.
The O letter representing 5 at 3 o clock in the run-out grooves, signify both sides are No.
5 record from the first mother, a very first pressing but as It Would Be So Nice failed completely to sell or chart, only one pressing was ever made.
THE Sold In UK TEXT IS PRINTED ACROSS THE PUSH-OUT CENTRE.
The Gramophone Co Ltd.
IS ON THE LABELS RIMS.
Made In Great Britain IS PRINTED AT 6 O CLOCK.
THE 1960 s UK TAX CODE SHOULD BE KT OR BEING 1968, KJT IN COMBINATIONS OF THE THREE LETTERS, BUT FIVE LETTERS EMBOSSED ON THE A-SIDE, COMPLETELY SURROUND THE SPINDLE HOLE, WITH ZJOKH The last time Z was seen on an EMI records was in 1962, with a few appearances early 1963, J was included but this Tax Code is bizarre to say the least.
I included a close-up picture and if anything, there could be more than I have given, I left it at five letters because two more merged with the very thick textured label paper and became unreadable.
KT WAS STAMPED AT 12 O CLOCK IN THE RUN-OUT GROOVES AS NORMAL ORIGINAL 1968 RED, WHITE BLACK COLUMBIA SLEEVE, WITH A WAVY TOP, THE BACK HAS AN ADVERT FOR Morphy-Richards HAIR DRYERS.
AS only the recorde was played once, I feel I have to describe the sleeve as unused because I am not convinced this record was played by an EMI executive.
A 1968 sleeve that naturally has an unavoidable record impression with a few related gentle creases, there are no tears or splits.
Some minor ageing, allowing for the creases from standing untouched for the last 49 years, a very strong sleeve.
I WILL GIVE A STRICT GRADING, THE SLEEVE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION.
AS A SAID, ONE ULTRA FAINT POSSIBLE SPINDLE TRACE ON THE A-SIDE LABEL, SO ONE PLAY ONLY FOR Paint Box AND AMAZINGLY...
AN UNPLAYED Apples And Oranges I LOVED TYPING THAT, BUT AS THE RAREST POSSIBBLE CONDITION I HAVE TO THINK IN TERMS OF AN UNPLAYED MAJOR PINK FLOYD SINGLE APPROACHING HALF A CENTURY IN AGE.
The record is literally like brand new, a deeply glossy top surface, no marks or scratches on either side, a Mint record and I believe the faint trace was from handling when being inspected or having the Factory Sample sticker placed on the B-side.
In my long experience, sticking that on the B-side does very strongly suggest there was any interest in hearing the record as the Test Pressing and Demo s met full approval.
Another reason could be, during the inspection the bizarre Tax Code would have justified the record....
being visually inspected in the first place That leaves me a problem,do I play the record or offer such a rare Pink Floyd in this incredible condition...
for a record I have never sold on ebay and spent decades finding a first pressing to replace my worn out original.
Julia Dream is one of my most loved Pink Floyd track, a truly beautiful, haunting melody that sounds uncannily like Syd Barret wrote and sang it.
He did not of course, I chose that side for the lyrics and all credit to Roger for writing Julia Dream.
I sold several copies at record fairs but around Excellent condition, the only other Mint copy is in my collection I have answered my own question, I will leave this unplayed by myself.
THE RECORD IS IN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MINT CONDITION.
It Would Be So Nice and Julia Dream did not appear on the 1960 s Pink Floyd albums, both tracks were on the 1971 Relics album, issued worldwide with several cover variations.
The UK cover has to be the one as it was drawn by Nick Mason, both tracks were only mastered in Mono on Relics, the back cover has an almost hidden symbol that leads you to be told the Mono only 60 s singles were electronically enhanced to sound like Stereo, but they are in Mono.
Certainly a different mix though, personally I prefer the stunning 1967 UK Mono 45 mix, but I am very biased towards 60 s mono.
Apologies for the high bidding price, but I paid a very high price for such fantastic condition and being a Factory Sample , it was not sold in a record shop and any Pink Floyd 60 s single that failed to even chart in the UK, is extremely rare.
In fact, after the initial success of Arnold Layne and See Emily Play, the next Pink Floyd single to chart in Britain was not until 1979 with Another Brick In The Wall Part II .
I think this can be one of my shorter descriptions...for a change Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.

When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
