Go, go DAVID BOWIE: Aladdin Sane LP.
UK VERY FIRST PRESSING, RELEASED 20th APRIL 1973.
TEXTURED ORANGE RCA LABEL RS 1001 LSP 4852 Textured, but a return to a positive sheen top surface finish to the orange RCA labels, also for 1973 Pye s vinyl was heavyweight and extra thick.
I have commented many times about the frail, easily worn and creased UK David Bowie album covers in the early 1970 s, such as Hunky Dory The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust, at last the first issue gatefold cover was made from very thick, strong cardboard.
However, with a 1960 s quality heavyweight record, it was balanced out with the impact of the record s impression....a laminated cover was required With that moan out of the way, along with far superior quality, unlike the previous thin paper lyric inner sleeves, RCA finally included a thick cardboard lyric inner sleeve and printed in colour.
Plus a cardboard Fan Club Booklet with a David Bowie signature printed and a perforated right side to fill in and enroll to the Fan Club, the artwork was directly from the album cover and a nice touch was to print the Aladdin Sane track listing on the left side should the Fan Club form be removed, filled in and sent off.
This unplayed record naturally has the booklet untouched and complete and in unaged Mint- condition.
MAITRIX: CPRY 4543 - 3T / CPRY 4544 - 3T The very first pressing, the ending 3 digit and T letter on both sides were the starting point of the extensive indexing.
The maitrix was machine stamped on both sides in Pye s distinctive letters and digits and Pye s prefered position in the run-out grooves at 6 o clock.
I have only begun the details of the very first pressings and I have virtually completed them all very early.
RARE VERY FIRST ISSUE ONLY INSERT, AN Aladdin Sane DAVID BOWIE FAN CLUB APPLICATION BOOKLET.
PERFORATED TO ENABLE DETACHING THE FAN CLUB APPLICATION, MEASURING 10.5 x 8 , UNFOLDED 21 x 8.
FROM THE THE COVER S ARTWORK,THE FRONT HAS A BLACK WHITE PICTURE OF ALADDIN SANE.
ABOVE RIGHT IS A PRINTED SIGNATURE FROM BOWIE, SIGNED IN BLUE INK I Love You - David.
INSIDE LEFT HAS AN Aladdin Sane SILHOUETTE FIGURE WITH THE FULL LP TRACK LISTING UNDERNEATH.
THE RIGHT SIDE HAS THE PERFORATED APPLICATION FORM, THIS WAS NOT SEPARATED OR USED, IT HAS NEVER LEFT THE COVER AND THERE ARE NO MORE THAN A FEW TINY RIPPLES BUT NOT EVEN A HINT OF AGEING.
THE THICK CARDBOARD Aladdin Sane PICTURES FULL LP LYRICS INNER SLEEVE IS IN MINT- CONDITION.
HEAVY DUTY CARDBOARD FIRST ISSUE GATEFOLD COVER, MADE BY Shorewood Packaging Co.
Ltd.
England The cover was never used and anything here is literally just the standing in storage traits for the last 43 years, as mentioned, the massively thick, heavyweight record had to have an impact on the cover.
An impression and associated edge lines and some ripples alongside the spine as usual.
On the plus side, no use has meant no actual wear and the white background is virtually the 1973 original ivory white colour.
Ageing is too minor to mention, in fact, all to add is the factor assembling where a finger print with glue attached is on the back, it hardly shows though and I am just being accurate.
The colours are unfaded and vividly bright, considering the matt top surface, this is in exceptional condition.
The large box shape spine is a main feature spine and that has perfectly clear, unworn blue lettering for the titles, once again, the back top has a minor impression from the record and related ripples and edge lines, a superb first issue UK cover in authentic condition.
THE COVER IS IN EXCELLENT / NEAR MINT CONDITION.
THE IMMACULATE TEXTURED, EASILY MARKED LABELS, DOES NOT HAVE ANY SPINDLE ALIGNMENT TRACES.
FACTORY / ORIGINAL RECORD SHOP HANDLING IS TEDIOUS TO REPEAT FOR RARE UNPLAYED RECORDS, A SUBJECT THAT AFFECTS EVERY DECADE INCLUDING VINYL MADE IN 2017.
ANY TRACES OF THAT, IS FEATHER LIGHT AND NEAR INVISIBLE.
THE RECORD IS IN UNPLAYED, MINT CONDITION.

All Songs Written By David Bowie Except Let s Spend The Night Together David Bowie - producer arrangements Mick Ronson - arrangements Ken Scott - producer sound engineer Any album that spawned, The Jean Genie , Watch That Man The Prettiest Star, had to be something very special and it was, every track was a masterpiece.
If anyone thought The Rise Of Ziggy Stardust was impossible to follow, David Bowie s genius was inspired on Aladdin Sane, to write, arrange and produce, sing and play a guitar, harmonica, keyboards and sax.
Having never collected all Bowie s records and just dipped in at various points along his illustrious career, there is not much I can really add to the very well documented history of David Bowie s legendary Aladdin Sane , the follow up to the previous year s Ziggy Stardust.
The two albums had a huge impact and altered the course of the 1970 s decade for music, art and even fashion.
As ever my main focus centres entirely on the music and the record itself, particularly when the album was a No.1 UK chart topper in May ,1973 and proceeded to spend nearly a year still selling and therefore it never left the UK charts until 1974.
To be accurate a 47 weeks chart residency, then this masterpiece of an album was still in demand throughout all of the following decades and underwent multiple re-pressings.
I always declare when I did personally collect an artist s record I happen to be selling, but while trading at record fairs, I had an ample David Bowie LP section and I am fully experienced with the pressings and more to the point, what constitutes a British first pressing.
Trying to track down the very first pressings made is not helped by RCA s maitrix being unreliable for dating purposes, unless you know which letter was used per individual album, in this case it was T on both sides.
I know the RCA label inside out because I was buying all the Kinks Lou Reed albums in the early 70 s and I was more into the same era Bowie albums.
Without knowing the ending letter, to differentiate any RCA LP from re-issues, the easiest method is by eliminating the later issues, for Aladdin Sane they have no relationship at all to this record, the labels or the cover.
RCA introduced their International labels and Bowie s re-issues from the late 70 s and the 1980 s etc.
are found on their green and then black labels.
Often the labels are not put on view so the cover is the only clue offered on PC screens, here Aladdin Sane becomes one of the easiest to identify without knowing the maitrix.
RCA had stuck so rigidly to only printing International on all the cover s top right hand corners, anything that got in the way was moved around by printers.
It sounds bizarre when the simplest solution would have been just to show flexibility about the positioning of International on covers but the David Bowie title found on all the original first issue Aladdin Sane covers were positioned on that top right corner, they were moved across to the left hand corner.
The original colour of the gatefold s outside and inside s background to the artwork was a very positive creamy white.
The re-printing of all directly following covers made in the 1970 s and beyond that became a white background.
The first issue gatefold covers were made from exceptionally thick heavy duty cardboard, so much so, it was closer to a USA cover than the average 1973 UK covers, Interpak By Shorewood Packaging Co.
Ltd.
England printed these first UK issues.
RCA s labels in 1973 still had Stereo on their top sections, but only just during this period, a sheen textured top surface gave a different, appearance I have tried to capture that in my label pictures.
There is nothing I love more than having an ultimate condition first made record and labels to illustrate in pictures how things looked when first issued.
Having that light cream matt outside has of course involved some degree of ageing after 44 years, the lack of constant handling with an unplayed record is a huge advantage, any fractional ageing is so minimal I did not have mention it really This true mint first pressing record with the rare Aladdin Sane insert were more than adequately protected by the gatefold cover and as I often say, that was the purpose it was made for, not forgetting there is also an unused, unsplit lyrics pictures thick cardboard inner sleeve part of the package.
Big selling albums of this age, now approaching 40 years, are certainly not easily found without severe wear to both the record and such a vulnerable unlaminated, light coloured gatefold.
There are no blemishes at all, as I said, anything here relates only to storage and the passage of time, there is no wear to really tell here, all the corners, the edges and the spine are as close to being perfect as they are can possibly be.
With just a few unavoidable storage signs, on reflection my grading is over harsh but I accept Excellent / Near Mint incorporates unavoidable natural events The vinyl is the ultra thick heavyweight type used for the UK first pressing s, gleaming like brand new and the immaculate labels do not have any spindle traces, this has never been played.
Something I have to respect because in all ouryears trading at record fairs and now on ebay, this record is only the second I have seen as a genuine unplayed, true Mint very first pressing.
The Fan Club application is in the form of a booklet, David Bowie / Aladdin Sane s image from the front cover is in black white and above right is Bowie s message and autograph written in blue ink I Love You - David.
I will stress the handwritten original is printed, however authentic I must admit it does look.
They were not placed inside all first pressings and rare to find complete, one half was intended to be kept because the form itself has a dotted/ perforated line to cut along and send off.
That leaves the described front part, David Bowie / Aladdin Sane s image from the back outside cover artwork, with all the tracks printed in black underneath.
Great to see this uncut and in one piece, amazing to be without ageing after fourty four years.
This did not have the front section to slip the insert inside because that was glued shut, just a ripple from from being alongside the inner sleeve holding a heavyweight record.
The inner sleeve only has a light record impression, the sheer quality of first issue items prevented any major storage problems.
Even if this was cover shrink wrapped, exactly the same comments would be made, but I have yet see a first pressing of Aladdin Sane.
Out of interest, to join David Bowie s Fan Club in 1973 cost a very reasonable 55 pence, as I said, 1973 was a mighty long time ago now.
Roy R M RECORDS.
My lifetime s love of music and records began at a very young age, the arrival of the Beatles and the 1960 s decade in general had a very profound effect.
It was only natural to bring all my first hand experience of collecting vinyl into becoming a professional record seller.
Nearly thirty years ago we entered into the wonderful atmosphere of record fairs with the highest possible standards set.
When the Internet became the world s new market place for vinyl, in 2001 it was time to join ebay.
Those standards were rigidly adhered to as they will always continue to be, the basics of honesty and integrity were very much part of the era the music I love originated in, so here is our friendly and very efficient service we are proud to provide EVERY RECORD IS FULLY PLAYED AND COMES WITH A NO ARGUMENT MONEY BACK GUARANTEE.

We have kept all our charges at the same level for years now, but due to the Post Office s new price increases, regretfully we will have to increase the cost of LP s, however, singles will remain unchanged.
Ebay were aware of that happening and have increased their minimum postal cost for LP s to 7.00, that figure has been enforced by the UK Post Office and it will become our UK First Class, Recorded Delivery cost for albums up to the value of 46.
A temporary reduction this week means we can now post LP s for 5, but who knows how long before the Post Office return to 7? For LP s valued above 46, the cost will be 9, we are unhappy about either increase but our high standard of packaging has meant in 13 years of ebay trading, there has not been one record damaged, we are determined to maintain that in the present and future.
IN THE UK RECORDS UP TO THE VALUE OF 46 WILL BE SENT RECORDED DELIVERY, OVER 46 WILL BE SENT SPECIAL DELIVERY.
