*** STILL SEALED LP BELIEVED TO BE THE SECOND PRESSING CIRCA 1976 ***

·       *PLEASE NOTE: INFORMATION IN PUBLIC DOMAIN REGARDING GENERATIONS OF PRESSINGS OF THIS TITLE IS CONTRADICTORY: DISCOGS.COM LISTS  THE PRESSING WITH CATALOG NUMBER COC-59104 AS BEING THE FIRST U.S. PRESSING OF THIS TITLE. HOWEVER, WE BELIEVE  THAT THIS CATALOG  NUMBER WAS USED ONLY OVERSEAS, NOT IN THE U.S. AND THAT SUCH U.S. PRESSINGS DO NOT EXIST (WE MAY BE WRONG); WE ARE OF THE OPINION  THAT COC-39107 IS, IN FACT, THE FIRST U.S. PRESSING OF THIS TITLE. CAVEAT EMPTOR!

·       GUARANTEED ORIGINAL, CUSTOM, “SUNTANNING IN THE DESERT” LABEL, UNIQUE TO THIS TITLE (NO OTHER LABELS EXIST THAT WE ARE AWARE OF).

·       THE THICKNESS OF THE VINYL, THE APPEARANCE AND THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE COVER, LABEL’S LOGO AND OTHER PERIPHERAL ELEMENTS OF THE COVER, ARE ALL PERFECTLY CONSISTENT WITH THE ORIGINAL, FIRST PRESSING OF THIS TITLE.

·       FAIRLY THICK VINYL PRESSING On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the thickness of the vinyl as 7.

Released in the summer of 1975, in the down period between Mick Taylor's departure and as the Stones were auditioning guitarists during the recording of 1976's Black and Blue (coincidentally, the '60s rarities comp Metamorphosis also came out in the summer of 1975), Made in the Shade offers a perfunctory summary of the Stones' records from the first half of the '70s. With the exception of their 1974 cover of the Temptations' "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" (presumably left off the LP so Mick and Keith would have all the publishing here), all the U.S. hits from 1971 through 1974 are here -- "Brown Sugar," "Wild Horses," "Happy," "Tumbling Dice," "Angie," "Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker)," "It's Only Rock 'n Roll" -- and they're balanced out with some sharp, hard-driving album tracks like "Dance Little Sister," "Rip This Joint," and "Bitch," the latter of which was played enough on the radio and in concerts to seem like one of their genuine hits. So, it's not a bad collection, but it's not a necessary one either, since the albums it anthologizes are pretty great on their own terms -- 1971's Sticky Fingers and 1972's Exile on Main St. are two of the greatest albums of the 20th century -- and such latter-day anthologies as Jump Back and Forty Licks cover this half of the '70s, plus the second half of the '70s, in a more thorough fashion. Nevertheless, if you happen to have it lying around your house, or can pick it up for a couple of bucks, Made in the Shade is pretty much guaranteed to give you a good time if you play it.

·       CONDITION:

·       RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          THE ALBUM IS STILL FACTORY SEALED AND IS BELIEVED TO BE PERFECTLY MINT. Please note: sealed items are assumed to be mint and are sold as-is, as we have no way of inspecting them. For our policy on still sealed records ►click here (PLEASE READ BEFORE PLACING A BID).

(b)          The record comes in its original, custom, inner sleeve, which is UNIQUE to this album. (we can actually SEE IT through the cutout saw mark)

(c)             The record is  apparently pressed on a RELATIVELY  thick, inflexible vinyl. This is NOT a thin, flimsy ('dynaflex' type),  vinyl, but not the thickest, most rigid vinyl, either.

(d)          Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

COVER IS NEAR MINT, STILL SEALED AND COVERED IN ITS ORIGINAL ►SHRINK WRAP  (A SMALL PIECE OF SHRINK WRAP IS MISSING)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Small catalog number correction sticker affixed to the spine (visible on both sides); the sticker corrects the catalog number from second pressing (COC-79102) to first (COC-39107)

-        Front cover has a few pressure points (nothing significant); a very common problem with many Stones albums:: as the album was stored next to the Sticky Fingers' legendary "zipper" cover,  the "Fingers'" zippered front would always irritate the cover next to it, in this case, Made in the Shade)

-        Cover has a small cutout saw-mark (an indent about 3-5 mm long ) on one of its seams.
