Item Description

Welcome to 20th Century Collectables Quality vinyl for the discerning collector The Beatles Please Please Me Genuine 1963 1st issue UK mono pressing on the Black Gold Parlophone Label, catalogue number PMC 1202.
In this 50th anniversary year, 20th Century Collectables is proud to offer this superb example of a UK 1st pressing black gold Please Please Me in its original GOLD cover with the rarest of all label variations Northern Songs credits on side 1 and Dick James label credits on side 2.
The copy has stunning black gold labels which still retain their original freshness and has a superb unworn audio.
Now becoming increasingly rare in this condition, this record has great investment potential unlike most battered and worn copies now being offered for auction.
NOTE This label variation is sometimes referred to and in my opinion wrongly as a crossover , where labels have undergone a change but have been introduced and mixed up with the older stock if this was the case it would follow that some records would feature the Northern Songs credits to side 2 and the Dick James credits on side 1.
As far as I am aware, no black gold Parlophone copies of Please Please Me exist with this combination.
The few rare copies which feature both publishing credits always have the Northern Songs credit to side 1 and the Dick James credits to side 2.
This indicates that the label change for the publishing credits for the songs I Saw Her Standing There and Misery were in fact corrected before the corrections for the songs Do You Want to Know a Secret and There s a Place , which were then corrected at a later date, albeit soon after .
With the exception of only one other seller on the internet this seems to have gone largely unnoticed.
There are therefore 3 distinct and sequential label variations to the black gold UK 1st pressings with this being the rarest in a sequence of three.
Don t miss out Matrix numbers: XEX 421-1N XEX 422-1N Stamper codes: 2/GL 1,2/GM Please check out the pictures and read on for further details:- CONDITION Disc Labels: MINT- The all important black gold labels on this UK 1st pressing are in remarkable condition and retain virtually all of their original shop freshness.
Both labels are free of any signs of spindle trails.
The gold lettering is shop fresh and completely unworn.
Side 1 carries the Northern Songs label credits, side 2 carries the Dick James label credits.
This label variation is by far the rarest and desirable.
The MT tax code is visible on side 2.
Audio: MINT - A stunning sounding record with no groovewear or distortion to any of the music signals.
This is a great audio example with all the dynamics and power of this famous pressing.
In fact there is very little to fault other than some light surface noise between some gaps.
Needless to say the record does not jump or stick and there are no loud pops or ticks.
A wonderful listening experience of this fine pressing.
Visual: EXCELLENT This is a fresh looking disc with a high gloss sheen and no dulling.
It is clear that it has not received much play in its 50 year history.
Side one has a few light superficial surface marks visible in strong daylight although non are feelable or effect play.
Side 2 has only one or two light marks which become visible when the disc is angled and a further noticeable mark approx 7mm in length on the last track.
This mark is very slightly feelable if one gently runs a finger over it but I am pleased to confirm that it does not affect play in any shape or form.
All in all a superb looking disc which would be very tough to upgrade but considering the MINT- audio there would be little point in doing so.
The heavy duty vinyl lies 100 flat on the turntable.
Cover EXCELLENT The record comes in its original E J Day GOLD cover.
A superb, solid example and rare in this condition.
The front panel still retains its high gloss sheen and shows very little signs of wear.
There is some slight damage and wear to the bottom right hand corner.
The back cover is remarkably fresh for its age with only minimal signs of light wear.
All flipbacks are intact.
There is some light staining on the bottom right corner but other than that this really is a superb example with no writing or any other marks.
The writing on the spine is perfect and undamaged Inner-sleeve MINT- Clean, correct and fresh.
