Item Description

Welcome to 20th Century Collectables Quality vinyl for the discerning collector The Beatles Revolver 1966 withdrawn 606-1 UK 1st pressing on the yellow black Parlophone label.
PMC 7009.
Comes in its original 1st issue Garrod Lofthouse cover.
20th century collectables is pleased to offer for sale this highly collectable and much sought after 606-1 matrix pressing of The Beatles Revolver in stunning condition featuring the alternative mix of Tomorrow Never Knows , not available anywhere else or on any other format.
The exact story behind why the wrong track came to be issued on such a seminal record is not entirely clear as its existence only came to light in the 1980 s.
However it would appear that John Lennon had decided with the benefit of hindsight and it would appear without the knowledge of George Martin to replace Tomorrow Never Knows with an altogether different mix.
For those collectors who are unaware, the track as it appears on this 606-1 pressing is significantly different to the one which was issued on all later copies of the album.
The seagull sounds are more intense and random, the track is longer and there is piano playing at the end of the track.
The song was seen by Lennon as a ground breaking piece of music, so it is understandable why he went to such lengths to have the track replaced on all later versions of the album.
Exactly how many were pressed before the album was withdrawn is not known but judging by the stamping codes, production ceased very early on in the production cycle and certainly before the release date of August 5th 1966.
Some rumours suggest that they were pressed only on the first morning of production.
Whether EMI destroyed copies of the album and released some by error is not known but the inconsistency in the stamping codes which I have extensively researched on the records that have survived would suggest that many copies were destroyed and never found their way into the shops.
The legacy of course is that collectors are left with a very rare pressing and an alternative version to one of the greatest and most seminal Beatles tracks of all time.
Happy bidding and good luck Matrix numbers: XEX 605-2 YEX 606-1 Stamper codes: 1/P 1/0 First Mother Please check out the pictures and read on for further details:- CONDITION Disc Visual: EXCELLENT A stunning looking disc and so very rare in this wonderful condition.
It still retains its factory sheen and appears virtually mint in daylight with only one or two of the faintest surface marks visible on close inspection.
Even under a halogen desklight nothing much more is revealed other than whispy sleeve removal marks.
Having caught sight of many 606-1 Revolvers, I m aware that of the few copies which do surface virtually all are below VG in condition.
When searching out rare vinyl it is somewhat of a discovery to find a 1st issue but when you notice the presence of a 606-1 matrix code in the run out groove there is a sense of excitement if on top of this the vinyl is nearly in mint condition you realise you have come across something quite special, none more so than this copy on offer here.
The vinyl lies 100 flat on the turntable.
Audio: MINT- Stunning audio throughout and one of the finest sounding copies I have ever heard of this rare withdrawn pressing.
Completely free of any distortion or groovewear.
The all important track of TOMORROW NEVER KNOWS grades at MINT and is a superb audio example of this rare and deleted track.
The record does not jump or stick.
Labels: EXCELLENT There is evidence of spindle trails to each label however all lettering is completely unworn and undamaged and there is no writing to either label.
Side one carries the KT tax code.
As with all 606-1 pressings, side two has the early abbreviated Dr.
Robert as opposed to the later Doctor Robert .
Cover EXCELLENT Severely graded at excellent.
The front panel still retains it high gloss laminate and bears only one ultra faint thumbnail crease.
The rear panel is free from any writing and the easily tarnished panel is clean and quite fresh.
All flipbacks are intact.
There is some very minor wear to the bottom right corner.
All in all a superb cover.
Inner-sleeve Excellent Clean correct PATENTS APPLIED FOR and MADE IN GREAT BRITAIN inner sleeve.
There is a touch of light handling creasing and some natural ageing.
There are no seam splits or tears.
