THE BEATLES Please Please Me - GOLD ON BLACK This listing is for one of the true Holy Grails of Beatles collecting On offer here is an original GOLD ON BLACK mono copy of the Beatles debut LP, Please Please Me Not only that, but the condition is remarkable Back in early 1963 the Beatles had just recorded their debut LP, Please Please Me.
As the record was going to press Parlophone were in the middle of a label change from their older gold style labels to their new yellow style labels.
As production started on the album, a tiny, tiny percentage of copies caught the trail end of gold style labels as old stock was used up.
Today, these gold on black copies are near impossible to find These early copies also had a very slightly different cover, where the Angus McBean photo credit was aligned to the right side of the final S of SONGS.
On the vast majority of covers, this credit is aligned to the left side of the final S.
This sleeve is original to the disc and has the earlier, correct gold alignment of the McBean credit Not only that, but the copy I m offering here is in an really nice condition Because it was these really early copies that bore the full brunt of Beatlemania, almost every copy that turns up is worn, well-played, scratched, marked etc etc.
This copy, however, is wonderfully clean and looks like it was very well looked after Gold on Black copies of Please Please Me hardly ever turn up for sale as more and more get bought up and placed into permanent collections.
They almost never turn up in this top, EX condition This is your chance to pick up a beautiful, EX copy of this Beatle mega-rarity I ve taken a lot of photos of this record that can be found at the bottom of this listing.
If there is anything else you d like to know about this record that I ve forgotten to mention, then please feel free to ask a question and I ll get back to you as soon as I can.
Good luck Please check out large, detailed photos of this record at the bottom of this listing.

Day Side 1 Matrix Number XEX 421-1N Side 2 Matrix Number XEX 422-1N Side 1 Stampers 1 / L Side 2 Stampers 1 / GG Cover Condition The cover is in VG condition.
It s holding up absolutely fine but with some light, general wear and tear.
The front is nice and clean with a rich colour and just a little, light laminate rubbing.
There s some small, light, little creases running around the edges.
Looking at the front, the top and bottom left edges have rounded and are showing some light damage photos of this, and of all angles of the cover, are shown at the bottom of the listing .
The top and bottom seams have a few, tiny creases running through them but there are no splits or tears or anything.
The spine is intact and fully legible and, like the seams, just has a couple of little, tiny creases running through it.
Nothing at all serious, though.
The back is nice and clean, but has creamed a little and has light browning at the middle at each end, most likely through handling over the last 50 years There s a small crease of mark at the mouth edge that runs through the Ask Me Why song title photo shown below .
The overflaps are holding but are showing a little damage at the corners as I ve shown in the photos below.
Overall, this cover is looking really nice.
These early sleeves took the full brunt of Beatlemania and most turn up pretty badly damaged.
This one is looking great Inner Sleeve Condition The original, polythene-lined Emitex inner sleeve is in EX condition.
It s holding up really, really nice with just a little light creaming and a touch of wear along the mouth edge and light browning in the corners.
There s just a little disc impression but looks wonderfully flat with no real creases to speak of, and there s no tears or splits in the seams.
The original polythene lining is still stuck tight and has not come away as so many usually do.
Overall, looking really nice Inserts Condition - Disc Condition The disc is in EX condition.
The disc has a lovely, clean shine to it and looks like it has been well looked after in it s 53 year life There s some light scuffs and marks here and there but nothing serious.
There are two slightly heavier looking scuffs that I ve photographed and shown below - on side 1 there s a light but noticeable scratch which I cannot feel with my fingertip.
It s at 3 clock and runs through track 1 and half way into track 2.
The other mark is on side 2 and is a light, surface scratch very light and unfeelable under the fingertip that s at 7 o clock and runs from track 2 to the start of the deadwax.
Other than that, looking great These early gold copies bore the full brunt of Beatlemania and the vast majority were played into the ground.
To find one in EX condition is near impossible Label Condition The labels are in EX /NM- condition.
The labels look incredible with beautiful, bright gold lettering There is no wear and tear at all on these labels and look amazing No spindlewear, no writing, marks etc or anything.
All I can see is a little whitening around the centrehole on both labels.
Check out the photos below, the labels are glowing All records have been visually graded under a strong, 125W natural light desk lamp.
