Nimbus Supercut LPs were released as a mail order only promotion to Practical Hi-Fi and Hi-Fi today magazine readers during the early 1980s.
All Nimbus Supercut releases were available in limited quantities of around 1000 pressings per title, and as such, many are rarely seen for sale and are arguably rarer than releases from Mobile Fidelity, Nautilus, DCC, etc.
Nimbus established the need for high quality vinyl pressings at a time when most mainstream vinyl which was haphazardly mastered and pressed on poor quality recycled vinyl.
In contrast, Nimbus Supercut releases were mastered from the the original master tapes, through an all valve mastering process, using no limiting, to result in a high quality pressing which was as close as possible in sound to the original recording.
Nimbus also had ICI produce an extremely pure vinyl for this release, which has exceptional frequency reproduction and is virtually noise free.
Issued in 1984 in an extremely small quantity in the region of circa1,000 only and available by Mail Order Only and sold exclusively for the readers of Hi-Fi Today Magazine, this very rare STEREO LP was pressed by Nimbus Records UK, and was the only Beatles album to be issued by Nimbus.
This Special Pressing LP is on the official Black Silver Parlophone Label, with Two EMI Boxed logo s.
The Nimbus pressing comes in a plain white inner bag, which is polythene lined, and is housed in a traditional Garrod Lofthouse Gatefold Sleeve.
On the top right hand corner of the front of the sleeve, there is a gold coloured sticker which reads Supercut Mastered and Pressed exclusively for readers of Hi-Fi Today by Nimbus Records .
Also included in the package is a Sgt Pepper cut-out card.
Please note that the wording NIMBUS ENGLAND is machine stamped in the trail off area of the dead wax on both side 1 and side 2.
The matrix number is hand etched and reads on side 1 YEX 637-A and side 2, YEX 638-B .
Both sides of the Record Labels are in stunning Mint condition, showing no signs of play to the centre spindle holes, although I suspect the album has been played at least once before my one play.
The Vinyl Disc has to be graded Mint flawless vinyl vinyl surfaces as new.
As expected, the sound quality of this pressing is truly magnificent and it plays beautifully needs to be heard personally to be fully appreciated .
The SGT Pepper Sleeve is a regular non laminated Garrod Lofthouse Sleeve and is in in lovely Excellent Plus condition, showing just a very small bumps to three corners, also the top front edge of the sleeve has a 2 split see scan otherwise a nice sleeve with the most important Supercut Sticker attached.
For those of you with Technical Expertise, set out below is some further information about this truly superb Nimbus pressing: The equipment line up used to produce this pressing was as follows: Neumann mastering lathe with Dr.
Hallidays special varigroove system to take up less space for a given level.
Neumann 300 watt Valve cutting amplifiers with low noise front end by Dr.
Halliday, Studer A80 tape playback machine.
Passive gain control to minimise the amount of electronics in the signal path.
An Ortofon box which applied a variable low pass filter.
This precaution was needed to protect the heads drive coils from up to 1.5 kWatts of peak energy.
They were also cooled by helium gas.
Special vinyl was made for this pressing by ICI.
This was delivered as a powder not as granules.
It gave a flat frequency response so no HF boost had to added at mastering.
This is a beautiful example of the rarest SGT Pepper album, produced to the highest possible quality, and is complete as it was when released in 1984 .
