Booker Ervin, who always had a very unique sound on the tenor, is heard in prime form on his quartet set with pianist Horace Parlan, bassist George Tucker and drummer Al Harewood. In virtually all cases, the jazz and blues musicians who recorded for Candid in 1960-61 during its original brief existence were inspired and played more creatively than they did for other labels. That fact is true for Ervin, even if he never made an indifferent record. In addition to Poinciana and Speak Low, Ervin s quartet which was a regular if short-lived group performs four of the leader s originals best known is Booker s Blues.

a WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VG . A few light abrasions ARE VISIBLE, but they appear fairly insignificant relative to the overall condition of the vinyl, and are only moderately visually distracting. For most part, the vinyl looks impeccable, without any MAJOR visual flaws or imperfections. Much of the original luster is intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
b The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording
c The record has a deep groove an indent in the label about 1/2-inch from the edge of the label, which on SOME labels is associated with very early or first pressings .
d Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording

- Front cover has a rectangle-shaped tape residue yellowish discoloration from the removed piece of old and aged scotch tape less than 4 square inches in size
- Cover has some light ring wear nothing significant On the scale from 1 to 10 1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe , we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 front side and 3 back side
- Cover has a small red ex-libris stamp on the back panel
- Cover has some tiny, faint writing on its back side a microscopic price code written in one corner
- Cover shows some light yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Cover shows JUST A HINT of yellowing on back side, apparently from aging.
- Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam nothing significant
- Cover has a partially split spine less than 1 inch / 2.5 centimeters
