From the archives of a noted Australian rock n roll and entertainment historian comes this piece of classic rock music history. Amongst the grails of Australian rock music collecting, The Easybeats rates high. And an Easybeats test pressing rates immediately below an acetate on the rarity meter. The Easybeats. Bells. 1965. TEST PRESSING. Australia. 1965. EMI. Single-sided. Matrix numbers 7P.1463 on label, 7XAPA1191 on dead wax. Never released. According to blog Studio Outtakes, this was recorded at the first Easybeats recording session, among four tracks that yielded the single, For My Woman, backed by Say That You re Mine. Some collectors say this was among the first 40 tracks recorded in 1965 which is not beyond the realms of possibility. According to someone who knows, the matrix indicates this was mastered by EMI in September 1966. It appeared as The Bell on the unofficial George Crotty compilation LP, Steady On, in 1978.
