Label/Format: Decca, original unboxed format with deep inner ring ridge, these have matt, textured surfaces. All text details of format seen on the pictures.
Label Conditions: Both in amazing condition for a 1964 mono record. Ultra clean, fresh and highly attractive with only very light, fine and faint spindle traces and no wear around the hole area. Just a single small trace on side one, and two or three fine ones on side two this incredible debut album appears hardly played.
Catalogue Number: LK 4605
Mode / Speed: Mono / 33.3 rpm.
Up and Down Movement: A gentle trace. Few vintage records will ever be perfectly flat, any issues with significant movement or tracking will be mentioned in detail if applicable.
Lateral Movement Side-to-Side : Barely a Trace.
Weight of this Record: 145 grams.
Country of Manufacture: England
Rarity: Very early copies in this condition are now rare. Most were played to destruction on the most basic of mono record players that tracked at vast weights. Indeed, 10 grams was the minimum weight recommended for mono stylus at this time. No wonder many were worn-out trashed within a few weeks or even plays. This fantastic copy appears hardly even played and offers sound that time and the mode defies. This copy also includes the much rarer flipbacked cover, most examples are flat, and given the flimsy construction and thin card, this has minimal real wear either, the front especially is exceptional compared to most that surface more details on this further down Few will be found less used and a copy many fans will treasure.

Brief Info: The first Rolling Stones album with all bar one song covers of RnB standards. The American version had a different track list and title. This a superb early UK copy with the rarer flipbacked cover and the record appearing hardly played. A rare opportunity for sure as most seen are in appalling condition putting this stunning record in true perspective. This the finest very early pressed copy I have heard to date. The full-on mono sound perfect for the era, quite unrefined and raw, hardly a hi-fi gem, but that s simply part of it s charm. Who could have imagined when this was issued back in April 1964, the band would still be together and touring as 2020 approaches? The legend of The Rolling Stones began here.
Cover Grade and Format: EXCELLENT: I think this hardly does this vintage cover full justice, in terms of real wear, little. Just the back has toned and mildly aged and at around 55-years-old, I think it s earned the right. A single format with front Clarifoil laminate, this covers all the folds and ends on the flat rear spine edge and two top and bottom flipbacks. The main back is matt and smooth. The card very thin and flimsy, hence most are seen with major laminate issues, lifting and creasing. Printed and made in England by MacNeill Press, includes the original inner sleeve that has no reference to stereo records and sapphire tipped stylus.
Lamination Front: One of the very best fronts for this album I have seen. The famous artwork of the young band is dark with elements of mysteriousness of the then little-known musicians. One of the very few I have seen without lifting of the Clarifoil laminate which is massively difficult to find without. Usually the spine edge has horrendously large blisters and cracking, this has none whatsoever. Clarifoil has a tendancy to contract and pull over time resulting in large lifts or bowing of the thin card, so to find this flat and all laminate fully adhered is a rarity. It retains excellent shine, freshness and clarity with hardly any dulling or even creasing. A small few ultra fine and light spine edge hairlines is almost the very least to be expected, and these hardly even show. The super-thin spine edge has compressed, to the text can be seen from the front, but all that is unworn. A hint of discolouration or toning on the very edges to politely remind of age, but this front is superb and I for one have no issues with mild ageing for one well over half-a-century old.
Cover Back: This has no rubbing, damage or writing so many wrote their names on covers from this era , such records were popular party pieces . Well this has never been used for third party entertainment, clearly the one owner from new looked after this. Yes, the white card and flipback ends have darkened over time with some patchy quite mild toning, but few will ever avoid this to some degree. The lack of damage and real wear is a huge plus. As is the rarer sight of two neat undamaged flipbacks that were only included on a relative select few of these early covers. Most are smooth backed without them. These often caught and tore, often badly damaged, ripped and crudely repaired no such issues on this one. Also the lack or ugly ring wear is another major plus with a thick heavy Decca record inside all this time. The card is just so thin hence many again found with grubby, almost black full penetrating ring wear, this again has none as-seen.
Top Edge: Incredibly thin, but still quite straight without the usual heavy bowing similar covers acquire. The laminate smooth and fully intact, a tiny few small toning spots only.
Bottom Edge: Similar with even fewer toning spots.
Right Edge s , and Type: Clean, sharp with hardly any thickening, that really is a sight to see and telling me this record has been removed very few times. Record enters on this edge that is guaranteed untrimmed or enhanced.
Spine and Text: Solid, straight but with compression as-seen and mentioned above. All text is perfect and unworn under the solid and uncracked or peeled laminate.
Corners: All corners crisp and sharp with no knocks, any creasing or rubbing minimal, some darkening again. Excellent, or even better shape retained.
Cover Summary: A very strong all-round example of this very fragile 1960 s cover, one that will prove very difficult to find much better. Yes, some patchy discolouration to the exposed back, but for me this ages the cover in a good way, but that purely a subject opinion. This attractive item should please many collectors.
The Inner Sleeve: EXCELLENT: again the paper a little darkened, but fully intact and very neat. Two crisp undamaged window circles and even the polylining fresh and clear. Minimal creasing with all edges naturally intact.
Vinyl Condition/Visual Grading: EXCELLENT : arguably better. A superb visual copy that is very clean with equally fine shine and typically very solidly pressed on quality Decca vinyl. A copy appearing hardly played on all the evidence with any surface traces few, very light and faint as seen critically under bright light, hardly any being honest. No penetrating stylus scratches, viewed in average room light, hardly anything even registers. Visually an amazing, popular mono record that should please many, if not most collectors. These rarely surface like this and came from a one-owner private collection, so this has hardly been handled by anyone else.
Album Played For Grading: Yes. I play ALL records I offer before submitting to Ebay, also the record is played in its entirety unless clearly stated otherwise. I do NOT play snippets or joining grooves to check for sound quality and quietness I play from the beginning to end via clinically revealing equipment, all listed further down.
Sound Quality and Audio Grading: This quality album plays up to and even above it s high visual grading with hardly anything to fault. Offering strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear sound quality is high with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. The production raw and full-on with the typical Andrew Loog Oldham sound. Any surface sounds are minimal indeed and this is a very clean pressing with no tracking issues or inherent pressing noises. Few available copies form this early era will outperform this I feel sure. Both channels are clean and sharp when played on a standard stereo system I do not own a mono deck or amp . I am certain this record has been played very lightly and has been generally well stored and carefully handled. Nothing spoilt my pleasure when play-grading this lovely record. It will prove very difficult to find significantly better and can be strongly recommended.
As played-graded on a high-end Linn LP12 Sondek turntable with Ittok Mk II arm and Ortofon Quintet Black moving coil cartridge tracking at 2 grams. Records are a contact format, and few will avoid the odd minor sound blemish.
I am one of the most established sellers on Ebay, trading since 2001 and offering the finest records I can find. I pride myself on offering a variety of genres to keep my site as interesting as possible. I will rarely offer any record that falls below a true Excellent grading, unless its of a certain rarity which will justify offering a lesser grade. I try, to the best of my ability to describe as accurately and as honesty all elements of the items I offer for sale. You may notice I only submit records quite sparingly on Ebay as I Play-Grade every record I offer in their entirety also on higher-end equipment not just bits to guess a grade visuals alone do not always tell a true story. I will try to mention any defects or flaws no matter how small that I notice to be fair as possible to any interested collector I am very fussy and my buyers have the right to be too. Every record I offer, whether it be a common or rare item deserves the same respect as far as I am concerned and will be treated the same just because an item is rare does not always mean it s good. I get just as much pleasure offering a relatively common record in near mint condition as the real rare items. All the pictures I use for your guidance are the item being offered with no digital enhancements. Room light factors can make things vary sometimes, that is hard to control, especially in winter. I hope the item below is to your liking any questions can be emailed and I will do my best to answer you. I am enthusiastic, and have a fair degree of knowledge about many genres and I promise quality items. Please assume all records I offer have NO jumps, sticks, major warps or writing on covers or labels unless clearly stated to the contrary. Thanks for your interest and Good luck MIKE.

SOME GENERAL GUIDES TO WEAR AND CONDITIONS TO HELP YOU DECIDE
My Use of Description Terminology: Surface Marks Superficial, usually light marks, hairlines or light scuffs that rarely sound. Scratch a needle mark that goes below the record s surface, some will sound, some will not, my play-grade will inform. Original a record that has been pressed with the first label design which does NOT necessarily mean a very first pressed record. First Pressing A record that I believe or know to be a genuine very first pressed record. I do not claim to always know for sure, and that s why I state the stamper and matrix numbers if at all possible, for those who claim to know what they all mean, the information is there for the collector to decide. I prefer to use terms like Early Copy rather than First Pressing if I am not totally sure. Surface Sound Mild, light sound, usually light crackle or similar. Distortion Break up of the actual sound caused by groove wear or damage from a chipped stylus the most undesirable form of unwanted sound, vintage mono records were the most prone to this happening but not exclusively so. The symptoms of distortion are high frequency clipping, moderate constant crackle or an echo type sound quality. Violin, piano and vocals are most prone to groove-wear distortion. Feathering Fraying or softening of the entry edge of a cover. Covers with feathered entrance edges are more likely to have had the actual record inserted and removed more than a non-feathered, sharp-edged cover which are always far more attractive. Set Off, a printer s term for dark ink leaving mild residue on pale or white ink when rested upon. e.g. when a gatefold cover has black ink closed against white, this can leave some black residue on the pale area this is mostly unavoidable or course.
