Need we say more? One of top-five albums on anyone-and-everyone s list, here is the Beach Boys s regal masterpiece in all its original mono glory. The sound of the original mono LP will leave you salivating Brian Wilson s Teenage ode to God aged with such immaculate, spiritual grace, that many people put it right up there in the Pantheon of Classical music, along the masterworks by Beethoven and Mozart. No wonder. It is an album of fine, delicate, almost nocturnal vibes, accessible only to deeply hurt or loving souls. On Pet Sounds, minor key reigns supreme from start to finish.

When Capitol records issued this masterpiece in 1966, they did a remarkably idiotic, bird-brained, retarded and we are being lenient on Capitol here decision to issue relatively small number of copies of this album altogether despite the fact that Beach Boys were, along the Beatles, their biggest-selling act presumably because they had misgivings about the commercial appeal of the album, and could not immediately identify any obvious hit-singles on it to warrant their enthusiasm the album would ultimately yield no less than four top-50 singles alas, no top-10 chartbusters , including God only Knows , the songs many believe to be the single finest ballad in the history of Rock .

When the Beach Boys catalog distribution switched to Warner Brothers in 1971 as part of the deal with their proprietary Brother label , one of the first decisions new label made was to issue a long-overdue mono reprint of this classic album. They did so, however, in a somewhat unusual manner: first they issued a standalone Pet Sounds album, with a completely changed back cover, and significantly modified front cover the green margins and song listing of the original version had been thrown out, and a sizeable brown border added to the photo of the band . Then, they issued it again, this time coupling it in a 2-LP set with the group s latest release: Carl and the Passions. Still, for more than 10 years, this was THE ONLY VIABLE MONO VERSION OF THE ALBUM in existence. Capitol Records would not again reissue the album in mono until the mid-1980 s. The white label promo version of the Pet Sounds released by Brother Records in 1971 is THE ONLY WHITE LABEL PROMO VERSION OF THIS CLASSIC ALBUM EVER RELEASED.

For its extraordinary contribution to the contemporary music, superb production, craftsmanship, fine musicianship, revolutionary significance and influence it exerted on numerous generations of musicians, songwriters and general public, or for some other inherent quality, this album was voted one of top-200 albums of all time in one of the largest poll of critics, music reviewers, show business professionals and producers ever organized: the poll, which was conducted by Paul Gambaccini, the legendary BBC Radio A R man, surveyed more than 50 top music professionals including Roy Carr, Jonathan Cott, Robert Christgau, Cameron Crowe, Chet Flippo, Ben Fong-Torres, Charlie Gillett, Greil Marcus, Murray the K., Lenny Kaye, Bruce Morrow a/k/a Cousin Brucie , Tim Rice , Lisa Robinson, Robert Shelton, Ed Ward, Joel Whitburn, Pete Wingfield, etc. .
