SO SHROUDED IN MYTH AND MYSTERY IS THIS RELEASE THAN NOT EVEN THE EXACT RELEASE DATE CAN BE DETERMINED WITH ANY DEGREE OF CERTAINTY THE GIVEN RELEASE DATES VARY FROM 1970 TO 1975 FROM WHAT WE COULD DETERMINE, THE ALBUM WAS ACTUALLY RECORDED IN 1970 AND THEN, AFTER THE GROUP COULD NOT FIND ANY MAJOR DOMESTIC LABEL THAT WOULD DISTRIBUTE IT DUE TO THE ALBUM S POLITICALLY RADICAL CONTENT AND CONTROVERSIAL IMAGE OF TWO SHINTO SAINTS IN THEIR BIRTHDAY SUITS, DECIDED TO DISTRIBUTE THE ALBUM THEMSELVES VIA MAIL ORDER ONLY IT APPEARS THAT ONLY ABOUT 600 COPIES WERE PRODUCED AND MAILED STARTING IN 1972 AND ENDING IN 1975, OF WHICH PROBABLY LESS THAN 20 STILL SURVIVE DUE TO THE FRAIL NATURE OF THE ORIGINAL OVERSIZED MAILER

Zuno Keisatsu is a cult band of the Japanese 70s scene this is their first release, a very good acoustic live performance, athough not musically mind-blowing. Famous for the left-wing lyrics that leaded to its censure, the album was reissued for its 30th anniversary by an obscure independent Japanese label. During that period, the fame of the band grew significantly as each member took part in solid or skilful collaborations with many other artists from Japan s avant scene. This may be why Zuno Keisatsu stands as a major band if your wish is to understand how alternative music was spreading in the country in these times.Still, there are some awesome moments of folk music and complex congo beats that make it quite an essential release for any fan of Japanese folk music.
EXCERPT FROM AN ANONYMOUS ONLINE REVIEW
It is almost impossible to imagine how closed Japanese society was to the counter-culture of the late 1960s. Zuno Keisatsu were possibly the most provocative rock group of the Japanese underground, self-releasing this album in 1970. Featuring songs like Declaration of Global Revolutionary War and Grab a Gun Parts 1 and 2, this strange mixture of Marc Bolan and communal hippie psych jamming was wrapped in an oversized LP package featuring the identikit portrait and blank gaze of the Japanese equivalent of DB Cooper: the main suspect of a still-unsolved legendary multi-million dollar robbery.
