Beatles LP Apple White Album Vinyl Incredible Analog DMM Press in Shrink NM
For those unfamiliar with the technology, Direct Metal Mastering was a German invention of pressing an analog signal directly into copper plates, and then pressing the analog signal directly into virgin vinyl. The result is a vinyl that tracks silky and silent, bright sizzling sound quality. Many people mistake DMM as a digital signal, but it s definitely not.
The technology was very short-lived, and the pressings of each title of DMM records were extremely limited. The promo poster for this series says 250,000 copies worldwide. That s not many if you consider that their albums originally sold in the millions upon release.
I bought these DMM pressings in 1983, when I worked at a Sound Odyssey. I played them once to a -inch 2-track 15-ips reel-to-reel, and never touched them again. Please see the other DMM listings photos for sale this week, for a very good report of the DMM manufacturing process.
Vinyl--- NM. All four sides are exquisite, brand new-looking. Sound quality is stunning.
Plates--- A2/ B2, A2/ B2.
Cover--- NM. Still in shrink. Original Sound Odyssey price sticker still affixed to the front cover. Pressed by EMI Germany, the embossed EMI logo is lightly stamped in the lower right-hand corner of the back cover.
Cameras pick up greater detail than my eye ever could. It wasn t until I took the photo for the front cover that I realized that this cover is very lightly numbered. This copy is No. 109970.
Gatefold has never been opened in 40 years time. Inside of LP cover still smells new.
Labels--- NM. All four look brand new. Not one solitary spindle mark among all four sides
Poster--- NM. German poster is matte flat, as opposed to the glossy ones we know and love. Poster is so close to perfect, even your cat will know not to go near it.
Photos--- NM. All four photos are present and in brand new, gorgeous condition as though they were just printed. Unlike the poster, the photos are full-gloss and very beautiful.
Capitol Inner Sleeve--- Both rice paper sleeves are present and in Excellent condition. An extremely few finger divots. NO SPLITS.
As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up. Thanks
