PINK FLOYD - A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS
1968 UK 1st press prog gem - nice copy, highly presentable and a great listen
Year/Label : 1968 UK COLUMBIA
Label number : STEREO SCX 6258
Matrix numbers : YAX 3633 - 1, YAX 3634 - 1
Stampers : 1 G / 1 R
Very good plus VG condition vinyl - glossy, weighty and flat with a few wispy hairlines and extremely faint scuff marks on each side, only really visible when inspected closely under a bright light, but nothing feelable and nothing that is obviously below the surface. Each label is excellent with all silver text and the iconic blue COLUMBIA and accompanying logo remaining perfectly intact, the only blemishes too strong a word being just a few very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each label. Note the incorrect Gilmore spelling on both the side 2 label and outer sleeve and the K J T embossed tax codes on the side 1 label - all indicative of a true UK 1st pressing. The condition of the original Garrod Lofthouse UK 1st press front-side-only laminated outer sleeve is very good plus VG . The edges remain firm but with barely any scuffing at all, each corner remains a nicely defined right angle with minimal rubbing, and the colours, art work, and text all remain impressively intact. There is no cardboard creasing but there is some non-obvious surface laminate creasing on the front side towards the opening edge and top left corner along with x10 1-2cm minor laminate creases adjacent and perpendicular to the spine. The spine itself remains firm with all spine text intact. The reverse side flipbacks remain functional though each has some laminate creasing and there is a small tear on the bottom flipback which has been glued back and another small tear on the top flipback in the right corner - nothing major and nothing obvious, but noticeable nonetheless. Each of these blemishes is minor and the outer sleeve remains perfectly presentable and functional. The audio quality is very good plus VG with no skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, nasty clicks, interference, distortion or obvious background crackle. There is some very minor background crackle during a couple of the intermissions/quieter moments but it really is insignificant, and you will come across the occasional light background click each of which has no obvious cause. Nothing, however, to impinge upon the overall impressive and enjoyable listening experience. Comes with original EMI advertising inner sleeve with no seam splits, no opening edge fraying, barely any age discolouration, and some mild creasing at the top corners.
Hard to believe that this record is now 56 years of age - one of the true must haves for any serious prog rock vinyl collector.
