If I Were a Carpenter starts out relatively sane but by the middle it s gone batshit.
Mercury Blues sounds like something right out of Safe As Milk and elsewhere the duality of hard and soft recalls little-known 70s UK rockers Elias Hulk. A diverse but consistently rewarding album... indeed most of the best psych albums are the unknown ones
This first album by American Blues is a pretty strong mix of psychedelic rock and blues rock. Some of these songs are really good like for example If I Were a Carpenter , All I Saw Was You and Fugue for Lady Cheriff . The A-side is the stronger side here but the B-side includes nice material as well. The album closer Mellow is easily the weakest moment here but fortunately the rest of the songs are entertaining. I d say that in my opinion this is a very balanced and enjoyable record apart from the weak closing track.
