THE HOLY GRAIL for James Brown funk collectors
This is a super rare 3 LP set of test pressings for the legendary UNISSUED King LP 1137 - LOVE POWER PEACE THE JAMES BROWN SHOW LIVE IN PARIS. Recorded at the Olympia Theater in March, 1971, NOT the same show as the well known video taped the same week , featuring Brown s entire set along with tunes by Bobby Byrd and Vicki Anderson all backed by The original J.B. s including Bootsy and Catfish Collins.
King LP 1137 was scheduled for release in the Spring of 1971 but was cancelled before any retail copies were pressed. By April, 1971, Brown had a new band and by Julky he had a new label, Polydor. Polydor quickly recorded Brown s show at the Apollo for the Revolution Of The Mind album and this set gathered dust in the vault until an edited version was issued on CD. In 2014 Polydor licensed a limited edition triple album on the Sundazed label.
There were two mixes of the album in the original King vaults, the tapes of which Polydor now owns. The first mix was by King engineer Ron Lenhoff but Brown rejected it and remixed the album himself. These records are Brown s own second mix.
Test pressings were only distributed to King Records and James Brown Productions execs thus pressed in very small numbers. Few survived as most were eventually scrapped so they can be considered very rare. Plain yellow labels.......LP title, release number and artist credit hand written on most of the six labels.
