Showcases Hendrix working outside of the original Hendrix Experience trio. Some of Hendrix s finest guitar work ever released
Experience Hendrix LLC and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, proudly announce the release of People, Hell Angels, an essential album premiering twelve previously unreleased studio recordings completed by guitarist Jimi Hendrix
People, Hell Angels, showcases the legendary guitarist working outside of the original Jimi Hendrix Experience trio. Beginning in 1968, Jimi Hendrix grew restless, eager to develop new material with old friends and new ensembles. Outside the view of a massive audience that had established the Experience as rock s largest grossing concert act and simultaneously placed two of his albums in the US Top 10 sales chart, Jimi was busy working behind the scenes to craft his next musical statement.
These twelve recordings encompass a variety of unique sounds and styles incorporating many of the elements horns, keyboards, percussion and second guitar Jimi wanted to incorporate within his new music. People, Hell Angels, presents some of the finest Jimi Hendrix guitar work ever issued and provides a compelling window into his growth as a songwriter, musician and producer.
With an album title coined by Jimi Hendrix, People, Hell Angels, reveals some of Hendrix s post-Experience ambitions and directions as he worked with new musicians--including the Buffalo Springfield s Stephen Stills, drummer Buddy Miles, Billy Cox with whom Hendrix had served in the 101st US Army Airborne and later played on the famed R B chitlin circuit together and others--creating fresh and exciting sounds for the next chapter in his extraordinary career.
People, Hell Angels is co-produced by Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer and John McDermott. Kramer first met Hendrix at Olympic Studios in London in January 1967. Hendrix, who would have turned 70 on November 27, 2012, developed a unique rapport with Kramer. As a result, Kramer engineered every album issued by the guitarist in his lifetime and recorded such famous Hendrix concerts as the Woodstock festival in August 1969. Since 1997, Kramer has teamed with Janie Hendrix and John McDermott to oversee the release of each Jimi Hendrix album issued by Experience Hendrix.
The dozen previously unreleased Jimi Hendrix performances premiering on People, Hell Angels, include Earth Blues, Somewhere, Hear My Train A Comin , Bleeding Heart, Baby Let Me Move You, Izabella, Easy Blues, Crash Landing, Inside Out, Hey Gypsy Boy, Mojo Man and Villanova Junction Blues.
A musical companion piece and successor to 2010 s Valleys Of Neptune, the critically acclaimed album showcasing the artist s final recordings with the original Jimi Hendrix Experience, People, Hell Angels, offers tantalizing new clues as to the direction Hendrix was considering for First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, his planned double album sequel to 1968 s groundbreaking Electric Ladyland.
People, Hell Angels, provides us with further insight into the genius of Jimi Hendrix, said Adam Block, President, Legacy Recordings. Working with new rhythm sections and instrumentation, Jimi Hendrix was opening up the horizons of his music, creating new sounds filled with endless possibilities.
There s no shortage of posthumous Hendrix. He only released four long-players before his death in 1970 three times as many have been released since, and that s before you get into unofficial bootlegs. If you re going to get one of them, make it this. - Andy Welch, NME
S uperb guitar work on almost every song... T he collection provides ample evidence of how Jimi reconnected with those he came into contact with before Are You Experienced catapulted him to fame... Of these tracks, the opener Earth Love stands out. It may, in fact, be the best cut on the album, with a rock-solid groove, fine supporting vocals by Miles, and some wildly cosmic lyrics... Raw, gritty, and infectious, Let Me Move You hearkens back to Hendrix s days with the Isley Brothers and Curtis Knight... Because this has been an issue in the past, I should add that People, Hell and Angels contains no posthumous tinkering with tracks by studio musicians. - Jeff Wilson, The Absolute Sound, May/June 2013, Music 3.5/5, Sonics 3.5/5
Track by Track Notes:
Earth Blues:
Totally unlike the version first issued as part of Rainbow Bridge in 1971, this December 19, 1969 master take features just Hendrix, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles--stripped down funk at its very origin.
Somewhere:
This newly discovered gem was recorded in March 1968 and features Buddy Miles on drums and Stephen Stills on bass. Entirely different from any previous version fans have ever heard.
Hear My Train A Comin :
This superb recording was drawn from Jimi s first ever recording session with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles--the powerhouse rhythm section with whom he would later record the groundbreaking album Band Of Gypsys.
Jimi shared a deep love for the blues with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles. Both musicians understood Jimi s desire to create what he described as a new type of blues . Jimi s menacing lead guitar is the centerpiece of this dramatic addition to his remarkable legacy.
Bleeding Heart:
This Elmore James masterwork had long been a favorite of Jimi s. He had performed the song earlier that year with the Experience in concert at the Royal Albert Hall and had attempted to capture the song in New York studio sessions during the weeks that followed.
Recorded at the same May 1969 session as Hear My Train A Coming, the track conveys Jimi s firm understanding of the arrangement and tempo he desired. Before they began, Jimi instructed Cox and Miles that he wanted to establish a totally different beat than the standard arrangement. He then kicked off this amazing rendition that was nothing like any other he had ever attempted.
Let Me Move You:
In March 1969, Jimi reached back to another old friend, saxophonist Lonnie Youngblood. Before he was discovered by Chas Chandler in the summer of 1966, Jimi had contributed guitar as a nondescript studio sideman for Youngblood and such infectious rhythm and blues styled singles such as Soul Food .
This March 1969 session features Hendrix and Youngblood trading licks throughout this never before heard, high velocity rock and soul classic.
Izabella:
In the aftermath of the Woodstock festival, Jimi gathered his new ensemble, Gypsy Sun Rainbows, at the Hit Factory in August 1969 with engineer Eddie Kramer. Izabella had been one of the new songs the guitarist introduced at the Woodstock festival and Jimi was eager to perfect a studio version. This new version is markedly different from the Band Of Gypsys 45 rpm single master issued by Reprise Records in 1970 and features Larry Lee, Jimi s old friend from the famed rhythm blues chitin circuit , on rhythm guitar.
Easy Blues:
An edited extract of this gorgeous, free flowing instrumental was briefly issued as part of the long-out-of-print 1981 album Nine To The Universe. Now nearly twice as long, the track offers fans the opportunity to enjoy the dramatic interplay between Jimi, second guitarist Larry Lee, Billy Cox and drummer Mitch Mitchell.
Crash Landing:
Perhaps known as the title song for the controversial 1975 album that featured Hendrix master recordings posthumously overdubbed by session musicians, this April 1969 original recording has never been heard before. Jimi is joined here by Billy Cox and drummer Rocky Isaac of the Cherry People to record this thinly veiled warning to his girlfriend Devon Wilson.
Inside Out:
Jimi was fascinated by the rhythm pattern that would ultimately take form as Ezy Ryder . Joined here by Mitch Mitchell, Jimi recorded all of the bass and guitar parts for this fascinating song--including a dramatic lead guitar part amplified through a Leslie organ speaker.
Hey Gypsy Boy:
The roots of Jimi s majestic Hey Baby New Rising Sun trace themselves to this March 1969 recording. Unlike the posthumously overdubbed version briefly issued as part of Midnight Lightning in 1975, this is original recording that features Jimi joined by Buddy Miles.
Mojo Man:
Jimi would lend a hand to Albert Arthur Allen, the vocalists known as the Ghetto Fighters, whom he had befriended in Harlem long before he achieved fame with the Experience. When the two recorded this inspired, previously unreleased master at the legendary Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama they took it back to Hendrix at Electric Lady Studios. Jimi knew just what to do to elevate the recording beyond contemporary R B to the new hybrid of rock, rhythm and blues he was celebrated for.
Villanova Junction Blues:
Long before his famous performance of this song at Woodstock, Jimi recorded this studio version with Billy Cox and Buddy Miles at the same May 1969 session which yielded Hear My Train A Comin and Bleeding Heart also featured on this album. Never fully finished, the song stands as an example of the fertile ideas he hoped to harness and bring to fruition.

The sensational sophomore release of The Jimi Hendrix Experience highlights Hendrix s own evolving musical experimentalism and acknowledges his early musical influences of soul and R B. Remastered from the original two-track mixdown master tapes, Axis: Bold As Love s 13-songs show the evolving trio as they neared the height of their career. Features the seminal classics Spanish Castle Magic, Little Wing, Castles Made Of Sand, and the classic Easy Rider anthem, If 6 Was 9.
This is the album that let the other guitar greats of the era know that Hendrix was the greatest that he d transcended the blues riffs, the Chuck Berry-isms and the electrified C W picking and taken string bending to new territory. - Michael Fremer, musicangle, Music 10/10, Sound 9/10
...Axis is a leisurely, bluesy jewel Hendrix slowed down on Little Wing and If 6 Was 9 to allow his guitar space to breathe as well as burn. Little Wing is like one of these beautiful girls that come around sometimes, he said. They might be spaced, they might be kinda strung out. But everybody has a right to . . . their beliefs, if they want to believe that a star is purple, or whatever. Like Hendrix, Axis was cryptic and bewitching. - rollingstone
Blissed out from his appearance at Monterey Pop, Hendrix brought a delicate touch to this ballad at a 1967 London session. In a mere 145 seconds, he conjured a gossamer reverie. Hendrix played one of his most lyrical solos through a Leslie speaker cabinet creating an oscillating sound and later added glockenspiel to complete the mood. - Rolling Stone
A s good as the stereo mix and well worth having... T here s power in the mono focus, and the drums in particular are well served... T he QRP pressings are dead quiet and physically perfect. - Michael Fremer, analogplanet Music 9/10, Sound 9/10

Lang and O Barry had been inspired by the June 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, the groundbreaking gathering where Jimi Hendrix, making his US debut, famously set fire to his guitar at the conclusion of his performance. Lang staged the festival at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida, securing the Jimi Hendrix Experience as the headline act for the two-day festival.

Rainbow Bridge is an album by American musician Jimi Hendrix. It was the second posthumous album release by his official record company and is mostly composed of recordings Hendrix made in 1969 and 1970 after the breakup of the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Despite the cover photo and subtitle Original Motion Picture Sound Track, it does not contain any songs recorded during his concert appearance for the 1971 film Rainbow Bridge.
Continuing in the vein of The Cry of Love, the first official posthumous Hendrix album, Rainbow Bridge explores new guitar styles and textures. All the songs, except for a solo studio version of The Star Spangled Banner, are written by Hendrix and mostly performed with Mitch Mitchell on drums and Billy Cox on bass.
The songs on Rainbow Bridge represent material in various stages of development and were never finalized or approved for release by Hendrix. Four of the songs on the album, along with the ten songs from The Cry of Love and three from War Heroes, were planned for Hendrix s followup album to the live Band of Gypsys, released in March 1970. Rainbow Bridge contains both studio and live music featuring Star Spangled Banner at the Record Plant in New York in March of 1969 and Hear My Train a Comin recorded live at Berkeley Community Theatre.

Regarded as the greatest, most influential debut release from any artist
Quality Record Pressings is proud and excited to be part of a rare reissue of the mono audiophile LP of Jimi Hendrix s classic Are You Experienced. Brought to you by Experience Hendrix LLC and Legacy Recordings, the reissue and its companion mono reissue of Axis: Bold As Love are part of the celebration honoring what would have been Hendrix s 70th birthday.
Both mono albums are to be released March 5, simultaneous with the release of People, Hell and Angels, also pressed at QRP an album of 12 previously unreleased studio-recorded Hendrix tunes.
When it was first released in 1967, Are You Experienced turned the music world upside down, as Hendrix showed everyone exactly what it meant to be experienced. Hendrix synthesized various elements of the cutting edge of 1967 rock into music that sounded both futuristic and rooted in the best traditions of rock, blues, pop, and soul. It was his mind-boggling guitar work, of course, that got most of the ink, charting new sonic territories in feedback, distortion, and sheer volume. It wouldn t have meant much, however, without his excellent material, whether psychedelic frenzy Foxey Lady, Manic Depression, Purple Haze , instrumental freak-out jams Third Stone from the Sun , blues Hey Joe , or tender, poetic compositions The Wind Cries Mary that demonstrated the breadth of his songwriting talents. Not to be underestimated were the contributions of drummer Mitch Mitchell and bassist Noel Redding, who gave the music a rhythmic pulse that fused parts of rock and improvised jazz.
Remastered and cut to lacquer by Bernie Grundman from the original two-track mix down master tapes, this rare mono version of the LP returns to the original 11-song U.S. track version released in August 1967. Included are the group s first three U.K. singles Purple Haze, Hey Joe and The Wind Cries Mary. The classic U.S. version, with its iconic fish-eye cover, was available in mono for only a brief period after its original release.
For this reissue, Grundman s Los Angeles mastering facility was specially equipped with a Studer tape machine outfitted with a full-track mono head block. In addition, instead of utilizing the tape machine s more contemporary Studer electronics, Grundman refitted the machine with vintage Ampex 350 tube electronics. These technical alterations provided the closest possible approximation of the original 1967 Track Records mono mastering process. Grundman s all-analog mono mastering process helps to present the vitality of the original recordings as accurately as possible. Remarked engineer Eddie Kramer, who with Hendrix and producer Chas Chandler, created the original mono mixes more than 30 years ago:
The entire cutting amplifier chain is tube and boy, does it sound good, he said. There is tremendous punch to the sound.
The plating at Quality Record Pressings was done by Gary Salstrom, master plating technician and general manager for QRP. Each of the reissued monos features original artwork and sequencing.
Jimi s thoughts on the recasting of his debut album in the U.S. by Reprise Records, who added The Wind Cries Mary, Purple Haze and Hey Joe to the track list, aren t entirely known. But Jimi did vocalize his frustration during later stage performances that Red House, his superb original blues composition, had been pulled from the U.S. album.

Six 1968 Concerts from San Francisco s Historic Venue Reshaped Rock and Roll: Here Are the Highlights
Includes 36-page Book and Rare Backstage Interview With Hendrix
Jimi Hendrix s Woodstock performance may be his most famous, but the guitarist named by Rolling Stone as the best in history was never better than at a three-night stand in San Francisco, putting on a total of six concerts that fans have long clamored to here. Featuring the cr me de la cr me of said performances, now everyone finally gets their wish.
Winterland is drawn from six stellar shows in October 1968 at San Francisco s historic Winterland Ballroom. These special performances celebrated the two-year anniversary of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and came just as the groundbreaking album Electric Ladyland was released. Even given the era s rich history, you ll be hard-pressed to come up with any concert that rivals what s here.
As many already know, Winterland presents some of Hendrix s most spectacular guitar work. This scintillating set is filled with rare live versions of classic songs such as Manic Depression, Are You Experienced?, Tax Free and Little Wing that are not part of any other Sony Legacy releases. Fans will also enjoy Hendrix s dramatic interpretations of Cream s Sunshine Of Your Love and Howlin Wolf s Killing Floor with the Experience joined by Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady as well as his rendition of Bob Dylan s Like A Rolling Stone, which many critics and fans regard as the ultimate interpretation.
Pressed on eight 180-gram LPs, this special deluxe box set features never-before-released music from each of the six unforgettable Winterland performances. Please note that Winterland is now markedly different from the flawed single disc compilation, long out of print, briefly issued by Rykodisc in 1987 and 1988. Moreover, Winterland also presents a rare interview with Hendrix recorded backstage at the Boston Garden a few weeks after the Winterland performances. This previously unreleased bonus provides fans with a unique window into Hendrix s views about his background, his approach to the guitar and songwriting and future direction of his music.

Throughout the course of four extraordinary years, Jimi Hendrix placed his indelible stamp upon popular music with breathtaking velocity. Measured alongside his triumphs at Monterey Pop and Woodstock, Hendrix s legendary Fillmore East concerts illustrated a critical turning point in a radiant career filled with indefinite possibilities. The revolutionary impact Jimi Hendrix, Billy Cox and Buddy Miles had upon the boundaries and definitions of rock, R B, and funk can be traced to four concerts over the course of two captivating evenings. These performances were first celebrated by Band of Gypsys, which featured six songs from the two January 1, 1970 concerts, including Machine Gun, the album s dramatic centerpiece. Issued in April 1970, Band of Gypsys challenged and surprised the wide following of Jimi Hendrix with its extended arrangements and vibrant mix of rock and soul.
In June of 1969, at the height of their fame, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, closed a musical chapter. Before the shockwaves could settle, Hendrix assembled a new, expanded ensemble to perform at Woodstock in August. A new chapter was opened as Hendrix introduced Gypsy Sun and Rainbows. The large ensemble included Jimi s longtime friend Billy Cox, on bass, whom he had befriended when both were serving with the 101st Airborne Division in Ft. Campbell, Kentucky in 1962. This Woodstock lineup was short-lived from its ashes a new trio emerged in October that Hendrix dubbed Band of Gypsys, consisting of Hendrix, Cox and Electric Flag drummer Buddy Miles, who would also contribute occasional lead vocals. Hendrix was inspired by his collaboration with Cox and Miles and this creative renewal drove the development of promising new material such as Power Of Soul, Burning Desire and the extraordinary Machine Gun.
Their debut live performances were a series of four concerts at the Fillmore East in Manhattan two on New Year s Eve 1969 and two on New Year s Day 1970, each of which were professionally recorded. Hendrix had sold out Madison Square Garden just nine months prior, but the Fillmore East was chosen as the setting for a live recording. Long before his fame, Hendrix had signed what he thought was a release for appearing as a studio musician in October 1965. Unfortunately, the one page artist agreement drafted by PPX Industries bound his services for a period of three years. Unwilling to live hands tied, Hendrix agreed to a 1968 legal settlement whereby Capitol Records would be granted distribution rights for his next album. By the autumn of 1969, Capitol and PPX were pushing hard for the album delivery and Hendrix decided to give them a live album.
However stressful this legal obligation had been for the guitarist, the end result proved to be an artistic triumph. True to his unpredictability, Hendrix opened his four-show stint with a masterful, 11 song set that did not feature a single song he had commercially released. Exciting new songs such as Izabella, Ezy Ryder and Burning Desire thrilled the sold-out house. Hendrix would pepper the remaining three shows with supercharged reworkings of favorites such as Stone Free, Purple Haze, and Fire but these were presented alongside such devastating, newly developed fare as Machine Gun. In his review of the second New Year s Eve concert, Down Beat critic Chris Albertson wrote, That ability of his to utilize fully the technical possibilities of his instrument, combined with his fertile musical imagination, makes him an outstanding performer.
By the end of January 1970, the band was history, but the blend of funk, rock and soul pioneered by the trio became history, making a profound impact on popular music in its wake. Notable devotees include funk pioneers Parliament-Funkadelic, Curtis Mayfield, the Isley Brothers with whom Hendrix himself had at one time played and Bootsy Collins, extending all the way forward to hip-hop. Countless artists cite the record as a cornerstone in their appreciation of Jimi Hendrix s remarkable abilities.
The original 1970 Band of Gypsys album was edited and sequenced from songs performed during the two Fillmore sets on January 1, 1970. Subsequent collections mined more material from each of the performances with significant chunks of these phenomenal recordings from those nights sitting unreleased for almost half a century. Newly mixed and restored in sequence without edits, fans can finally hear Hendrix, Cox and Miles blast through their genre-defying sets that included freshly written songs like Earth Blues and Stepping Stone, as well as Experience favorites inclusive of Foxey Lady, Voodoo Child Slight Return , Wild Thing, Hey Joe and Purple Haze. Additionally, exciting new versions of Howard Tate s Stop, Steal Away, by Jimmy Hughes and a searing Bleeding Heart by Elmore James highlighted the command that the trio had over blues R B music.
This lavish box set is filled with unseen photos from talent such as Fillmore East house photographer Amalie Rothschild, Jan Blom whose iconic, color saturated images provided the original artwork for 1970 s Band of Gypsys as well as Marshall Amplifier representative Marc Franklin, who had full access to the group in their dressing room backstage. The booklet features remembrances from bassist Billy Cox and liner notes by author/journalist/filmmaker Nelson George. Songs For Groovy Children was produced by Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer and John McDermott - the trio that has overseen every project for Experience Hendrix since 1995. The box set was mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Bernie Grundman.

Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Albums of All Time - Rated 15/500
The mono versions of this Jimi Hendrix classic is drawn from the original monoaural mixes created by Chas Chandler, Jimi Hendrix and Eddie Kramer in 1967. Mastered by Bernie Grundman, each album features original artwork and sequencing. This highly sought after mix, previously unavailable for decades, is presented on 200-gram audiophile vinyl.
The debut release from The Jimi Hendrix Experience is widely regarded as the greatest, most influential debut release from any artist. Are You Experienced has long been acknowledged as one of the most influential rock albums of all time. There are, however, two distinctly different editions of this legendary album. The original version, prepared and sequenced by Jimi and producer Chas Chandler, was issued throughout Europe in May 1967. This album excludes the group s first three UK singles. There has never been a mono release of this album in the U.S.
The classic US edition of the album was only available in mono for a brief period after its original August 1967 release. This version features the classic fish-eye cover and includes such hits as Purple Haze and Hey Joe .
These original monophonic mixes for both albums have been transferred from the original master tapes by noted mastering engineer Bernie Grundman. Grundman s all analog mono mastering process help to present the vitality of the original recordings as accurately as possible.
This UK version of Are You Experienced contains the original UK pressing cover by Track Records. The tracklisting differs from the U.S. version in that it does not contain the three singles: Purple Haze , Hey Joe or The Wind Cries Mary but instead these three tracks Red House , Can You See Me , and Remember which do not appear on the US version .

Jimi Hendrix Both Sides of The Sky 180 GRAM LIMITED 1ST EDITION NUMBERED 8835 DOUBLE LP SET
180g Double LP Contains 10 Previously Unreleased Studio Recordings
Pressed at Quality Record Pressings
Both Sides Of The Sky presents 13 studio recordings including 10 which have never before been released. All but two of these studio recordings were made during a fertile two year period between January 1968 and 1970. Jimi s mastery of the studio and his increasing use of them as a proving ground for new songs resulted in a growing collection of extraordinary material. Both Sides Of The Sky completes a trilogy of albums with Valleys Of Neptune and People, Hell Angels intended to present the best and most significant unissued studio recordings remaining in the Hendrix archive. The songs include fascinating alternate versions of Stepping Stone, Lover Man and Hear My Train A Comin as well as recordings where Jimi is joined by such special guests as Johnny Winter and Stephen Stills.
Both Sides Of The Sky was mixed by Eddie Kramer, the engineer for all of Hendrix s albums throughout the guitarist s lifetime, and produced by Janie Hendrix, Kramer and John McDermott.
Mannish Boy - The first ever studio session by the group Hendrix would christen as his Band Of Gypsys. Hendrix, Cox Miles shared a love for the blues as this driving, uptempo reworking of Mannish Boy by Muddy Waters makes clear.
Lover Man - Just two weeks before their triumphant New Year s concerts at the Fillmore East in NYC yielding both 1970 s Band Of Gypsys and 2016 s sequel Machine Gun , Hendrix gathered with Cox and Miles to cut this dynamic rendition of what had become a favorite concert staple.
Stepping Stone - A totally unique take on this Hendrix favorite, with Jimi showcasing both blues and country styled licks atop a relentless, galloping beat.
20 Fine - Stephen Stills joined Jimi, Mitch Mitchell and Buddy Miles Express keyboardist Duane Hitchings at this September 1969 session. With Stephen handling lead vocals and organ, Jimi added multiple guitar parts to this rollicking Stills original.
Power Of Soul - This 1970 studio session came three weeks after the Band Of Gypsys concerts at the Fillmore East. While a live version remains one of the highpoints of Band Of Gypsys, Jimi never released a studio version during his lifetime. For this album, we present the mix that Hendrix and Kramer prepared of the complete song at Electric Lady on August 22, 1970.
Jungle - The influence of Curtis Mayfield can be heard here as Jimi expands on the Villanova Junction Blues theme he made famous by its inclusion in the 1970 Woodstock documentary.
Things I Used To Do - Jimi is joined for this rendition of Guitar Slim s blues classic by Johnny Winter. Jimi s trademark guitar work and Winter s deft slide playing weaves in and around the foundation set by bassist Billy Cox and Crosby, Stills, Nash Young drummer Dallas Taylor.
Georgia Blues - Jimi reunited with some old friends from his pre-Experience days. Lonnie Youngblood, with whom Hendrix played in R B groups like Curtis Knight The Squires, voiced this superb twelve bar blues neatly underpinned by Hendrix s sublime rhythm and lead guitar work.
Sweet Angel - With Axis: Bold As Love only just released, Jimi immediately turned his focus to recording what would become Electric Ladyland. This gorgeous, instrumental reading of Angel, , features Jimi on guitar, bass and vibraphone joined by Mitch Mitchell.
Woodstock - Stephen Stills came to this session fresh from having visited Joni Mitchell, who had a new song that Stills was excited to try and record. Long before CSNY s version, Stephen, Jimi and Buddy Miles recorded this amazing rendition.
Send My Love To Linda - A superb new Hendrix original composition recorded with Cox and Miles in the aftermath of their successful Band Of Gypsys performances at the Fillmore East.
Cherokee Mist - Together with drummer Mitch Mitchell, Jimi created this moody, evocative original complete with his playing of a sitar to complement his traditional electric guitar.

Stone Free: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix 1993 was recorded by various artists in tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The artists were drawn from many genres of popular music. Contributors include his classic rock contemporaries Eric Clapton and Jeff Beck, blues man Buddy Guy, classical violinist Nigel Kennedy, alternative pop/rock bands Belly and Spin Doctors, hip hop artists P. M. Dawn, among others.
According to the liner notes, the artists were encouraged to not only record one of their own personal favorites but to also place their stamp on Jimi s songs. Several artists recorded radically different interpretations, particularly, P. M. Dawn, The Cure, Nigel Kennedy and Pat Metheny. Some artists, on the other hand, recorded versions that were rather similar to the originals.
The band M.A.C.C. is made up of Mike McCready guitarist from Pearl Jam , Jeff Ament bassist from Pearl Jam , Matt Cameron drummer for Soundgarden and later for Pearl Jam , and Chris Cornell singer of Soundgarden and later Audioslave . The cover of Hey Baby Land of the New Rising Sun is their only known recording. All four members of this group had previously worked together on the Temple of the Dog project.
Eric Clapton s backing group on the title track includes the three original core members of Chic Nile Rodgers, Bernard Edwards and Tony Thompson and is the last recording on which all three played together.
