Incredibly rare and highly collectible 1st US pressing promotional copy of Lightnin Hopkins album Mojo Hand recorded in 1960 and released by Fire Records in 1962. It s practically impossible to find the promotional copy of this masterpiece. Original 1st print cardboard cover contains a D.J. SAMPLES PROMOTIONAL COPIES sticker affixed to the front. The design of the cover most likely belongs to the artist whose name di Lello is indicated in the form of a print in the lower left-hand corner of the front cover. The title Mojo Hand has its roots in the African-American spiritual practice called HooDoo. However, in the modern context it refers to sexuality and virility. Continuing the theme of sexuality, the back cover contains the image of a pin up girl. The bottom of the back cover contains the New York address of Fire Records parent label Fury Records, Inc., which belonged to producer Bobby Robinson. This 1st pressing copy contains the 2.75 deep groove pressing ring FLP 104 Mono Fire logo labels. This 2nd US Fire Records red label variation replaced the white labels having the same design in 1959. Very early 1st Mono pressing vinyl with the full matrix numbers being as followed: Side 1: FLP-104-A CK LW Side 2: FLP-104-B CK LW. The album comes with the original Fire Records plain white inner sleeve.
The cover is in amazing condition and is graded as Excellent and perhaps, would be Near Mint Minus if it wasn t due to some very light barely noticeable shelf wear at the top and bottom of the front cover. The cover doesn t have any splits, missing pieces or writing. The top right corner of the back cover contains a round blank white sticker. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text. The vinyl is graded as Strong Very Good Plus. It retains the beautiful factory lacquer only having some very light non-feelable surface hairlines as well as scuffs from the original inner sleeve, which is in Near Mint condition. The vivid red labels are very clean, scuff- and wear-free, and are graded as Excellent, only having some spindle marks that can be seen under a strong light. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some very light occasional static. Track 3 of Side 2 has a couple of very light ticks, which probably will disappear if you change the balance of your tonearm. Most likely, the static also could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
