Item Description

An exceedingly rare Mint/Mint, and probably unplayed, 1962 stereo first pressing of Bob Dylan s self-titled debut album, with the earliest 6-Eye labels, thick cardboard cover, and fully intact shrink wrap with price sticker.

Columbia Records changed their labels to a solid red design a month or so after the release of Dylan s debut album, making the first black/red 6-Eye pressings extremely desirable. Dylan was a virtual unknown when this album was released and it sold very poorly. Stereo records were just being introduced at this time, selling primarily to the audiophile market and costing 1.00 more than Mono records. Consequently very few Stereo first pressings were made.

The Mint disc shows no sign of wear on either the labels or the grooves. The earliest heavyweight album cover, omitting John Hammond s production credit from the back cover, is in Mint to Near Mint condition, with the number 5 in the bottom right back cover. The corners are square, and the shrink wrap fully intact. There is a slight hint of toning to the left edge of the back cover, from exposure to air. Included is the original plastic innersleeve.

Included is a 2006 Letter of Authenticity from rare record expert Perry Cox, stating in part To date, this is the finest condition example of this album know to exist...The record, labels and vinyl show no evidence of ever being played. The cover retains the original shrink wrapping and has only been opened to remove the disc for viewing. Also retains the original inner sleeve.

The cleanest example of this ultra rare Dylan album that we ve seen in over 50 years.

We grade all records visually, cover first, then disc using the abbreviations M / NM / EX / VG with and -. We try to describe everything as accurately as possible, and spot check any vinyl flaw that looks like it might make a sound. We regularly receive praise for our grading, but as all grading is subjective, we are happy to give a full refund for anything you aren t happy with no questions asked.
Unlike some eBay sellers, we don t feel the need to hype records by including long reviews or albums, quoting lyrics, making up arcane variations. We just grade accurately, describe any flaw, and sell only high quality rare records in fine condition.
