Original true earliest 1st US Monarch, LA Mono pressing with the uncensored lyrics on The End track of The Doors self-titled debut album released in the early January, 1967. This copy was received several weeks before Christmas of 1966 by North Carolina State University s radio station whose first broadcast occurred on October 9, 1966. According to the recollections of one of the DJs this copy of The Doors debut album was among few albums that the radio station received during its first month of operating. If you knew what a big influence The Doors had on the youth at that time then you wouldn t be surprised that the uncensored The End track was a part of the university s broadcast multiple times. The condition of this copy is one of the best among the uncensored copies that we ve sold. On this university s copy you can hear the distinct series of F ck s repeated by Jim Morrison. The Mono 1st print cover of this copy with the EKL-4007 catalog number along with the vinyl is also in amazing condition. The top right corner of the front cover contains the North Carolina State University radio station s WKNC-FM sticker which is affixed on the top of the Promotional Copy Not For Sale sticker. Rare example of the 1st pressing that comes with the original Elektra 67 Catalog 5-panel booklet which Elektra Records placed inside the album for promotional purposes. This extremely rare catalog, along with the other Elektra releases, contains a photo of The Doors advertising the Mono EKL-4007 and Stereo EKS-74007 release of the band s self-titled album. Very early uncensored Monarch, LA plant pressing with the misprint labels indicating the first track as Break On Through To The Oher Side . Original 1st print Elektra Records gold labels which besides the EKL-4007 catalog number and 2 pressing ring feature a Weill-Brecht Witmark ASCAP publishing credit for Alabama Song Whisky Bar on Side 1 which was changed to Weill-Brecht Harms Co. ASCAP on the reissues. The vinyl pressed at the Monarch, LA plant contains the Mon abbreviation, MR in a Circle stamp and Delta numbers in the runout grooves on both sides. Mastered by the engineer Ray Hagerty as identified by his initials in the trail-off on both sides, the vinyl has the following 1st matrix numbers: Side 1 - EKL-4007A Mon MR in a Circle 10046 Ray Hagerty s signature Side 2 EKL-4007B Mon MR in a Circle 10046-X Ray Hagerty s signature . The original very early gold-white Elektra Records inner sleeve contains the 7 Poland St address as oppose to 2 Dean St present on the inner sleeves that came with the later copies of the album.
The cover is graded as Excellent and would be Near Mint Minus if it wasn t due to a couple of light creases on the bottom right corner of the front cover and the bottom left corner having a light push-in. The top left of the front cover has a light factory crease. The cover is very clean and doesn t have any splits, wear, writing, soiling or residue. The rigid spine contains a fully readable text. The cover has only a very light barely noticeable hint of ring wear at the top but no shelf wear or scuffing. I grade the vinyl as Excellent Plus for Side 1 and Strong Very Good Plus for Side 2 because of the light visible mark which is non-feelable and doesn t affect the playback in any way. The labels are very clean and in stunning Near Mint condition. The vinyl sounds amazing only having some very light occasional static which most likely will go way if the record is professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. Many uncensored copies of this issue have background noise on The End track, but on this copy it sounds pretty crisp and clear with no noise. The original Elektra inner sleeve and Elektra 67 Catalog are in Near Mint condition.
