ORIGINAL CAPITOL RECORDS 45 RPM MAILER BOX
This Capitol Records 7 45 RPM record featuring the Can t Buy Me Love and You Can t Do That singles was released on March 16, 1964, four days earlier than the UK release. The pre-orders for this single topped 1 million. This picture sleeve is considered to be the rarest of all commercial issue Beatles picture sleeves ever released by Capitol Records. The titles of the singles are indicated below a large Beatles banner with the Capitol Records logo and the catalog number 5150 on the right side. The composition is concluded by the legendary photo of Dezo Hoffmann which was previously placed on the first Beatles single I Want to Hold Your Hand / I Saw Her Standing There . The picture sleeve was ordered by Capitol Records from Queens Litho located in New York. The currently listed example is a sample copy that belonged to and was kept for a long time at the RCA Records office containing the date stamp Mar 13 1964 which was done 3 days before the single s official release date. The date stamp is located on the label with the Can t Buy Me Love track as well as on the Capitol s inner sleeve which is a part of the listed set. This set also includes the original native Capitol Records 45 RPM 7 x 7 x 2 mailer box with the 5150 catalog number of this issue and red Capitol logo on the front and back. The left edge of the box includes the 7-25 numbers referring to the record format and the quantity that fits inside the box. Original 1st print orange-yellow swirl labels without the Subsidiary print contain the Northern Songs Music Ltd. publishing credits. The Keystone-printed labels have the title of the singles written on 1 line unlike the West Coast labels printed by Bert-Co that have it on 2 lines. This copy s vinyl was pressed by RCA Records plant in Rockaway, NJ containing the identifier in the form of a hand-etched R on both sides. The full matrix numbers of this copy are as follows: Side 1 You Can t Do That - 45X-44913-T2 R Side 2 Can t Buy Me Love - 45X-44914-T2 R.
Stunning example. The picture sleeve of this copy is one of the best we ve come across with in a very long time and is graded as Near Mint, just like the Capitol inner sleeve and the vinyl which barely has any marks or scuffs. The labels are super clean and also in Near Mint Practically Mint Minus condition. The vinyl sounds amazing with some vivid punchy sound.
