Item Description

1925 EDISON BELL JAMES E HOUGH SOUVENIR 78RPM VELVET FACE RECORD- NEW YEAR Here s an interesting piece of phonographic history- a recorded speech by James E Hough, head of the Edison Bell company UK division of the US Edison phonographic empire .
The speech is a New Year 1925 pep-talk from Mr Hough to his employees, in which he speaks of his 30 years in the recorded music business as it evolved from wax cylinders to double-sided records, then discusses the new challenge of radio, and closes by telling his workers to be quite ruthless in the face of competition.
Unfortunately he died a month or so later in February 1925, so this is probably his last recording and therefore his valedictory speech. The recording is a little muffled, but there are no jumps.
You can see that the disc is in good order and the original paper snake-skin sleeve is torn down one side.
Please study the photo s carefully and do ask if you have any queries...
