Item Description

Here is a RARE ONE, actually an ULTRA-RARE ONE indeed Please read on

In this auction:

THE CONCERT FOR BANGLA DESH LP by by George Harrison Company that included Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, Billy Preston, Leon Russell, Ringo Starr, Klaus Voorman, Badfinger, and Ravi Shankar

This is Capitol Records SABB-12248.

The LP in this auction is the VERY RARE 2-RECORD SET in a GATEFOLD COVER that was to be a reissue of the original 3-LP box set released in 1971.

The front cover of this gatefold LP is the same as the original 3-LP box set. The rear features an image of George that may have been reproduced from the 64-page color booklet that was included in the original box set , listing of tracks and bar-code. It appears that most of Ravi Shankar s set was edited so that the content of the original box set with 3 discs could fit on 2 discs.

It was intended for release in December, 1982.

HOWEVER, THIS LP S RELEASE WAS CANCELED AND THE LP WAS WITHDRAWN due to legalities relating to contractual issues. Apparently, since a few record labels had loaned-out their artists to appear on the original 3-record box set, there was disagreement over royalties that would be paid on sales of the 2-LP version.

As a result, I understand that only several hundred copies of the LP were pressed and sent to distributors before it was recalled, thus making it quite rare. Sounds similar to the actions that occurred with first pressings of The Beatles Yesterday and Today LP with the infamous Butcher cover.

Most copies were destroyed by Capitol Records. Of the copies that survived, most have a saw-cut or promo hole punch in the upper right corner of the cover.

The front cover of this gatefold LP is the same as the original 3-LP box set. The rear features an image of George that may have been reproduced from the 64-page color booklet that was included in the original box set , listing of tracks and bar-code. The vinyl was issued with custom labels. It appears that most of Ravi Shankar s set was edited so that the content of the original 3-disc box set could fit on 2 discs.

This ULTRA-RARE PRESSING is in BEAUTIFUL MINT/STILL SEALED CONDITION. The shrink wrap is completely in tact. There is only a VERY, VERY TINY push on the lower right corner.

THIS BEAUTIFUL SEALED COPY HAS NO CUT OUT MARKING saw cut AND NO PROMO PUNCH HOLE.

IT S AN UNIQUE ULTRA-RARE COPY OF THIS CANCELED/WITHDRAWN STILL SEALED LP THAT WILL BE A STUNNING ADDITION TO YOUR VINYL COLLECTION, FOR SURE

Most sellers place a Buy-It-Now price on this LP. But, I have chosen to offer it in an auction format instead.
