Original 1st US Vee-Jay Records VJ 581 picture sleeve with a 7 45 RPM single featuring Please, Please Me and From Me To You which was released on January 30, 1964. Original 1st print white picture sleeve with a black and white version of the photo previously used on the Introducing... The Beatles album. The large vivid red The Beatles banner at the top of both sides definitely serves as the foundation of the artwork s composition, which also features the black Vee-Jay brackets logo and Please, Please Me and From Me To You song titles. The image on the original picture sleeve is sharp as oppose to a blurry one found on the counterfeit copies. The copy listed up for an auction is a vivid example of the original and authentic 1st print picture sleeve. This copy s sleeve is one of the cleanest and beautiful sleeves we ve ever come across anywhere. This commercial release includes the vinyl with the rarest Vee-Jay Records 581 purple label variation featuring the VJ brackets logo and silver print. Pressed at the Monarch, Los Angeles plant, the vinyl contains the MR circle stamp and Delta stampers on both sides. The full matrix numbers including the AudioMatrix stamp are as follows: Side 1 Please Please Me - 63-2967 46527 PA AudioMatrix MR in a Circle Side 2 From Me To You : - 63-3218 47843 AudioMatrix MR in a Circle.
It s very hard to find a picture sleeve of this issue in such a clean Near Mint Minus condition as usually the majority of them have soiling, ring wear, tears, wear and creases. This copy s picture sleeve is very clean and doesn t have any soiling or ring wear in the white parts, just some very light hint of ring wear on the photo of both sides at the bottom. There s a barely noticeable small discoloration spot next to the Vee-Jay Records logo on the sleeve s front, but aside from that it s snow white and in beautiful condition with no splits, writing, wear, missing pieces or residue. I grade the vinyl as strong Very Good as it has some non-feelable marks and hairlines as well as scuffs from the picture sleeve. The rare purple labels are graded as Very Good Plus due to them having some light soiling as well as occasional scuffs. In spite of being in Very Good condition visually, the vinyl plays great and its audio is graded as Excellent Minus. It has some very light occasional static which most likely could get reduced or go away if the record was professionally cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine.
