He wrote several books on the subject including multiple editions of The Encyclopedia of Jazz. Ira Gitler was also one of the most prodigious writers of liner notes, annotating more than 700 albums. In 2017 he was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Gatefold edition that includes liner notes by Nat Hentoff and photos of the musicians.
There is damage dent/tear to the the back cover/right side of the gatefold see photos but record and cover are otherwise untouched having sat on a shelf since the 1970s.
