This is by far, the best official release of the White Album to date. It not only includes the original album in incredible sound quality, it also contains the original MONO version, which is starkly different in many places. If you know the White Album by heart and have never heard the MONO mix, you re in for quite a few surprises.
But it also contains hours of recording sessions, also remixed. Many collectors well know the Esher sessions, which were the demos that The Beatles recorded in George Harrison s private recording studio. These sessions have been around in several bootleg forms for decades, but not presented in this fidelity.
And then there are recording sessions in addition, which have never been made available to the public, as well as plenty of instrumental backing tracks for many of the tunes on the album.
Giles remixes are without exception always revealing. He pulls to the forefront, a lot of elements that were either mixed out, or buried in the original release versions for lack of sonic space and limited technology. In many spots, it s like listening to the album for the first time. He definitely has his father s ear.
The Blu Ray presents the album in both MONO and STEREO, plus Hi-Def 5.1 and Dolby True Hi Def 5.1 sound. Sometimes it sounds like they re playing right in your living room
The generously thick book includes dozens of photos of the White Album sessions, candid shots, juicy photos of the acetates and reproductions of the original inserts, plus a song-by-song study.
