Item Description

STILL LIFE - STILL LIFE

Rare and sought after 1971 UK 1st press prog gem - lovely condition with excellent stereo sound quality

Year/Label : 1971 UK VERTIGO swirl
Label number : 6360 026
Matrix numbers : 6360026 1Y/1 420, 6360026 2Y/1 420
Stampers : 1 1 3 / 1 1 3

Excellent EX condition vinyl - flat and retaining it s original jet black lacquered sheen and in normal daylight comes across as unmarked, and it is only with close scrutiny under a bright light that just the occasional extremely faint paper scuff line come into view on each side nothing really , and if you look really hard you may just be able to detect a tiny and faint non-feelable scratch on side 1, track 3 which results in nine very light and background clicks during that passage of music - if it wasn t for this tiny blemish so small and faint that I can t even photograph it then I would seriously consider grading the condition of the vinyl as near mint . The labels are again excellent EX with all text and the iconic Vertigo large swirl remaining perfectly intact - there are just a few small and very faint spindle trails adjacent to the centre hole on each side. Clearly, this is a record that has been only sparingly played. A solid very good VG condition non-laminated Howard Printers outer gatefold sleeve with firm edges, including the spine the VERTIGO STILL LIFE text remains nicely intact but the catalogue number towards the bottom of the spine is partially obscured by a scuff. There is further sporadic mild scuffing on each of the spine and top and bottom edges, and a scuff mark towards the front side bottom left corner where a label once resided. There is alsomild rubbing on each corner and a few minor handling/sttorage marks on the reverse side and the interior of the gatefold but each is minor with the interior remaining impressive intact...in fact nothing of large significance certainly nothing nasty - and the wonderful art work, photos, and colours do remain overall impressively intact and well defined. Do take a close look at my photos - I think you will agree that the gatefold remains highly presentable as well as fully functional despite these relatively minor blemishes. Overall excellent EX stereo sound quality with no sticks, skips, repeats, or distortion and any background crackle is at an absolute minimum - just the merest hint of the very occasional split second of background crackle on side 1 - nothing really. The same with clicks - a light background click towards the beginning of side 1 and the aforementioned nine light clicks about two thirds of the way through track 3 on side 1 and that s it. Because of these track 3 nine background clicks I would grade the sound quality as very good plus for side 1, and side 2 is simply perfect - no clicks or crackle at all Impressive tone and clarity throughout with every track a great listen - People In Black is a superb piece of prog, with wailing organs and terrific vocals. Comes with excellent EX condition original and correctly dated poly-lined Vertigo swirl inner sleeve with no splits, edge fraying or discolouration and only minimal creasing. Note that I always ship the vinyl in a new plain white inner sleeve in order to protect the original.
A very nice copy of this under the radar and underrated prog rarity - one of the hardest UK Vertigo large swirls to get hold of.
