This auction is for a 1996 super rare, one-of-a-kind
WILD ORCHID -- MERRY KRIS-MIX PROMOTIONAL COMPACT DISC IN A CAN This is in very good condition.
What makes this a one-of-a-kind item is that it was a promotional item sent to the 1 radio station in my area. The band sings the dial position and call letters WITHIN the song.
Before getting in to all the particulars of this item, I will be totally upfront with you. THIS CD MAY OR MAY NOT PLAY FOR YOU ON YOUR EQUIPMENT. I will repeat this a number of times within this ad.
I purchased a new computer with a stand alone tower that does not include a built in CD/DVD player my last tower did, but after 14 years it was time to get a new one .
Anyway, I had to get a separate unit to play media on. The Wild Orchid CD did not play on this unit.
However, I have a larger frankensteined set up in another room that consists of a separate receiver and CD / DVD player. On THAT setup, the entire song played, all the way through. You can hear part of the song in the above video, so you know this is the truth. Continue to read on if you want to take a chance on this NON-RETURNABLE item.
The timing of the song is the same as the regular version...2:06 or so. On this disc, the song is continuous, but it is broken up in to cut 1 and cut 2 so the radio DJ could more easily cue up the part where the call letters are sung on cut 2 . Again, the song is continuous. The regular version is not on this disc, just this unique version.
Listening to the partial music provided on the video in this ad, you will hear :25 seconds of the regular song.

98.5 / KRZ came to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1980. To this day, they still play a winning CHR format of music. I believe that they are still the 1 overall rated music station since then. This version of the song was for them. I am sure Wild Orchid did similar versions for other radio stations around the country.
Pictures 2 - 3 - 4 show the top cover of the can. A large red sticker covers the entire top of the can 2 . There is a white mark made by a tape pull on the letter d of the word Wild 3 4 . Photo 5 shows the bottom of the label where it says See you in 97 .
Photographs 6 -7 -8 are of the collective signatures PRINTED on the label , and then closeups of all three of the singers signatures Renee Sandstrom, Stacy Ferguson, and Stefanie Ridel .
Take the lid off, and pics 11 and 12 are of the underside of the lid. There is a little piece of paper attached that states For your station s call letters, go to Track 2. Over the years the glued dried out and the paper fell off. I reglued it with a few dots of rubber cement so you can easily remove it if you wish .
Photographs 13 through 17 are different views of the top and undersides of the compact disc. The CD is in very good condition. You may see some VERY light short scratches on the underside and I mean VERY light, if you angle it in to the light . You can see the station call letters printed on the disc, the year 1996, and the song length.
The CD rests on a spongey surface that is just about the thickness of the metal case the case is approximately 5 by 3/4 thick . Lift the disc up, and there is a small black white photocopied picture of the trio pics 18 19 . Picture 20 is the underside of the can that states it was Made in England. It s possible that this can was originally used for a UK only released EP or something, and then the can was repurposed for this promo, but I have no knowledge of this.

I do realize that this is a hard sell , considering there s no way of telling whether or not this CD will play for you or not. I ll probably wind up just throwing it away, but I had to at least try to see of there was any interest...
Finally, I remembered I had this because I was doing a search for another band with a similar name. Wild Orchid info came up, and as I m reading about them, I never realized that years later Stacy Ferguson became internationally famous as Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas. It just took awhile to get there...
