Item Description

Ok so here is something a bit different and pretty much a once in a lifetime opportunity for serious jazz collectors which to be honest I am still in two minds as to whether to let it go so get it quick before I change my mind I couldnt believe that in with a recent record collection I purchased the original owner also had this canister of 16mm film marked up only as Ronnie Scott Intrigued by this I had the film professionally transferred to DVD a copy of which I will include for the winning bidder and to my absolute amazement when I watched this for the first time it turned out to be an original episode of the cult 1960 s BBC TV series Jazz 625 introduced by Steve Race featuring Ronnie Scott live from London s Marquee Club.
Now I have spent a fair bit of time researching this and I have shown the DVD to a few of my serious jazz buyers none of whom could recall ever having seen it before and as far as searching the internet I can find no reference to it and so to the best of my knowledge it is a lost episode which has likely never been seen since the 1960 s.
The episode is introduced by Steve Race who started the series later to be replaced by Humphrey Lyttelton so this makes this film even rarer as it must be one of the first episodes probably from 1964 or early 1965.
The line up of players is as follows : Ronnie Scott - Tenor Art Elefson - Tenor Eddy Blair - Trumpet Keith Christy - Trombone Colin Purbrook - Piano Dave Green - Bass Jackie Dougan - Drums Track listing is as follows : 1.
Perdido 2.
Juicy Lucy 3.
Sweet Lovely 4.
Broadway Overall visual and sound quality are pretty good for a 50 year old film and the guy that transferred ot to DVD for me said it was obviously well shot and a professional film.
I know that in the 70 s and 80 s the BBC threw out a lot of their archive film reels and the collection this came from was from a prominent jazz reviewer who I am guessing rescued this from the skip and thank god he did as it is a piece of British jazz history As you can probably tell I am quite attached to this and a little reluctant to let it go so I have set a reserve and serious bidders only please but bear in mind if you do win you are likely to be one of only a handful of people who have ever seen this footage of Ronnie at his best since th eoriginal broadcast date.

DAVE TOLD ME THAT HE REMEMBERED THE RECORDING WELL AND THAT IT TOOK PLACE AT THE MARQUEE CLUB ON 27TH SEPTEMBER 1964 HE STILL HAD HIS OLD GIG DIARIES FROM BACK THEN HE WAS DRAFTED IN AT THE LAST MINUTE BY RONNIE AND WAS THRILLED AS IT WAS ONE OF HIS FIRST MAJOR GIGS AFTER HAVING ONLY TURNED PRO THE YEAR BEFORE.
THE NAME OF THE GROUP WAS THE JAZZ 625 ALL STARS PUT TOGETHER BY RONNIE FOR THIS ONE TIME SHOW AND THAT THEY NEVER PLAYED TOGETHER AGAIN AFTER THIS RECORDING HE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT IT IS A LOST EPISODE AND HE COULDNT BELIEVE THAT IT HAD SURFACED AGAIN AND WAS DELIGHTED THAT IT WILL BE SEEN AGAIN
