Visual description
The vinyls are in lovely condition and still have a stunning glossy sheen with no marks or scratches. Under a bright light I can only see a small number of ultra faint hairlines and there is nothing that stands out. The labels are near perfect with only S2 having a minimal amount of spindle wear, 2/3 traces.
Play Grading
The intro on Calling All Stations plays perfectly - it has a big sound doesn t it Wilson s opening vocal has no intrusion either and it continues to play with superb clarity and definition. The mid instrumental is flawless and the remainder is equally as strong and clear. Ok it s not typical Genesis but surely no-one was expecting it to be when they announced this line up Wilson s voice is certainly strong and it s not a bad track actually. It is undeniably Mint from start to finish.
The intro on Congo has only minimal light static right at the start and as the music kicks in the playback is faultless. The first verse and chorus are as new as is the next verse. From then on it plays 10/10 with no interference - there is not one single negative. This is clearly Mint for the vast majority with only the intro grading as Near Mint
Shipwrecked plays with stunning quality through every vocal and instrumental section. Probably the strongest track on the side it easily grades as Mint
The intro on Alien Afternoon plays with great clarity and there are only a handful of super quiet statics. The first vocal section plays with sublime clarity and depth and it proceeds in the same way. The power and definition is first class and again I cannot fault the sound quality. The closing section is a case in point and there is no inner groove distortion, it has clearly hardly ever been played Mint-
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not About Us has some light static on the acoustic intro and and the opening vocal section is similar, nothing intrusive though. The first chorus has no background and thereafter plays with near perfect audio. A couple of minor statics during one of the brief instrumental breaks and another couple towards end. The opening section is Ex and at least Near Mint from then onwards.
If That s What You Need plays beautifully with no intrusion aside from a handful of barely audible statics. Mint-
The powerful intro on The Dividing Line plays without fault and the opening vocal is just as impressive. At 8.59 this track is a tad overlong as it s certainly not one of the strongest on the album. Just being honest Anyway it plays with impeccable quality and Mint is very much deserved. Perhaps the end instrumental slightly redeems it :-
Uncertain Weather completes the side the imperious quality once more. A much stronger track, pretty damn good actually There is no background and Mint is again fair.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Small Talk plays with stunning clarity and depth from the first note to the last and grade as Mint
There Must Be Some Other Way is basically the same with only a handful of barely audible statics on the intro and 3/4 static ticks on the end fade out. The instrumental section here is certainly more typical of Genesis. Mint-
One Man s Fool has only a minor hint of light static on the intro and the opening vocal plays to perfection. It continues in the same way with zero intrusion. The clarity and depth is again of the highest calibre and the closing section has only the bare minimum of inner groove distortion. A Mint- track to end the album with.
The Gatefold Lyric Inners
The glossy cover is in excellent condition with not too much wear. The only issue is some rubbing on the edges - on the top edge of the front cover and one rub area on the bottom edge of the back cover. The wide spine has some rubbing also but not an extensive amount. The right hand corners have only minor wear and the opening edges are in superb shape with next to no wear. The front cover is very clean and you can only see a little of the rubbing on the edges and the back cover is even better. The inside of the gatefold is pristine - a very respectable cover overall.
The two lyric inners are in fantastic condition with zero wear. No side splits etc, no marking or creasing.
